Justin Clune is responsible for a number of daily chores. He is responsible for splitting the wood, which he calls "an endless" task, and has been helping his father in the various construction projects during the summer, including finishing their log cabin and building an outhouse, a chicken coop, and fencing. He is also in charge of the family's chickens. Something is amiss, he says, because the number of eggs has dropped from 20 a day, down to only five or six. His theory is that the chickens are bored with the same old food, day after day, and have gone on strike for better culinary offerings. Or perhaps, Justin speculates, it could be a change in the weather. Or maybe they sense the presence of bears ...
