I had to use a restroom. So I went from the chlorine gas tank at the Oakmont Water Authority's Hulton Water Treatment Plant to find one. That meant I got to walk through the unguarded guts of the operation, even to the most sensitive valves and gadgets. Oakmont is this year's home of the PGA U.S. Open golf tournament, and there are tens of thousands of people milling around the place. Security is much better now, but could I get into dozens and dozens of water treatment facilities or the railroads that serve them with so much chlorine gas today? Sure. I just did, and we published the results in January 2007.
