Goals:
- Inform teens about learning
disabilities (LD)
- Explore strategies for dealing with LD
Format:
- Screen excerpts from Program 2 -
Childhood: Syllable from Sound
- Invite special education teacher to
discuss LD and methods of dealing with LD and invite participants to ask questions.
Focus Questions:
1. What kinds of learning difficulties do students experience in your school?
2. How can people with learning disabilities strategically deal with them?
- Select a well-known person who has
dealt with LD and find out how they
met the challenges. A list of people is
available at www.ldteens.org.
- Meet again in a month to report on the
biography of the selected person and
discuss the implications of LD.

- Literacy programs, especially at local libraries
Materials:
- Excerpt tape from THE SECRET LIFE OF THE BRAIN and necessary audio/visual equipment.

- Inform adults about learning disabilities and available resources. Explore strategies for dealing with LD.
- Invite representative from local literacy program to discuss program and what services are offered for people with LD.
- Develop strategies and training to be introduced into local literacy program.
