My grandfather's grandfather, John Duncan, was from Scotland and his grandmother, Lucinda, was mixed Ethiopian and Arabian. My father's grandmother, Pearl was a half-breed Cherokee from Henderson NC. My father's grandfather, William Ernest Bruce, was from what is now called Trinidad. I do not know what their birth name was before it was changed. My mother's parents are also mixed Indians of Creek, Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Blackfoot. My father's grandfather and I gather that back in those days the Daws Rolls was what the government used as a census but during the trail of tears a lot of Indians did not cooperate with the Daws or other rolls to be counted.
