My First Opera: Nixon in China
Posted: July 3rd, 2011

In January 2011, six Macaulay Honors College freshmen journeyed backstage as cast and crew prepared for The Metropolitan Opera premiere of John Adams’ Nixon in China. In addition to blogging about their five weeks backstage, WNET cameras followed the students as they interacted with composer John Adams, director Peter Sellars, Met general manager Peter Gelb and the many other professionals who make opera possible. The students also interviewed former New York Times editor Max Frankel, who won a Pulitzer for his coverage of the Nixon trip to Beijing in 1972.
