What is your favorite film about the news?

October 20, 2021 | Julia Corbett

A Face In The Crowd (1957).

This week’s question: Films about TV news. The emergence of television in the late 1940s killed the movie newsreel, a staple of filmgoing since the Teens.

What does our host Richard Peña think? “I can hear cries of “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore” even as I speak. Yes, of course there’s Network. But two other gems are Elia Kazan’s A Face In The Crowd—unbelievably prescient about our present media condition—and Michael Mann’s powerful The Insider.”
