First Cow, the new A24 film from minimalist director Kelly Reichardt, will open on March 6th at the Angelika Film Center and AMC Lincoln Square. Q&A sessions with Reichardt will follow certain screenings at both locations on March 6th and 7th. Set in rural Oregon (like many of Reichardt’s previous films) in the 19th century, First Cow follows the friendship between a cook and a Chinese immigrant who start a business together, their fortune relying on a wealthy landowner’s cow. It is a simple premise, which allows Reichardt’s signature minimalist style to shine through as it depicts the rural daily life of working class Americans in the 19th century. The film was selected to compete for the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.
