Rose Marie McCoy (1922-2015) wrote over 800 songs for Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Ike & Tina Turner, and more. The longtime Teaneck, NJ resident was one of the first Black women songwriters to make it in the popular music industry. Born in rural Arkansas, Rose got on a bus for NYC in 1942, with dreams of being a singer. This trailer for a proposed documentary tells her story.
