Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was in New Jersey Monday to mark groundbreaking on construction of the new Portal North Bridge over the Hackensack River. The 110-year-old original span has been a bottleneck for rail service between New Jersey and New York City. The new bridge is a critical piece in the broader Gateway program that will eventually double rail capacity between the two.
