When New Jersey’s new Legislature is sworn in, Sen. Teresa Ruiz (D-Essex) will be the first Latina in state history to be appointed Senate majority leader. Sen. Sandra Cunningham will be appointed Senate president pro tempore. Their selections are a move toward a more diverse Democratic leadership, but is the Legislature as a whole any closer to reflecting the state's diversity?
