SUICIDE AND DEPRESSANTS AND ALL THOSE SORTS OF STUFF, TARMERLAN THEY'LL DO IT IN A HEARTBEAT.

THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE GET A CHANCE TO FOLLOW BECAUSE FARMING IS NOT JUST SOMETHING THAT'S LIKE YOU KNOW I GREW UP AND I WENT TO COLLEGE AND I DECIDE TO BE WHATEVER.

THIS IS A GENERATIONAL PROFESSION THAT A LOT OF FARMERS ARE IN, IS THAT CORRECT?

THAT'S RIGHT, I AM THIRD GENERATION CHICKEN FARMER.

MY SON WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FOURTH GENERATION BUT HE'S BEEN BLACKBALLED.

THE COMPANY MY WIFE GREW WITH STOPPED PLACEMENTS OF BIRDS THERE.

SHE COULD NOT TELL THEM WHAT I WAS DOING WITH MORGAN SPULOCK.

THE COMPANY RETALIATED AGAINST HER JUST BECAUSE JONATHAN WAS DOING INTERVIEWS AND CONSULTING US WITH THE FILM.

THEIR SON, ZACH, WAS GROWING OUR CHICKEN.

THEIR FAMILY IS BLACK HOLED BY THE INDUSTRY FOR SPEAKING OUT.

HOW MUCH OF THIS IS ABOUT THE OVERALL LIKE FOOD PROCESSING, I DON'T KNOW, INDUSTRY THAT WE LIVE IN RIGHT NOW?

MONOPOLY.

A LOT OF IT IS ABOUT THAT.

WE ARE LIVING IN A WORLD WHERE FINDING INDEPENDENTLY GROWTH CHICKEN IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND.

FOR US TO FIND A BIRD TOOK US FOREVER TO FIND.

WE FIND THIS LITTLE ONE LITTLE HATCHERY THAT WE CAN RAISE IN A FARM.

IF YOU WANT TO BUY THE HEALTHEST CHICKEN YOU CAN, IT IS VERY HARD.

IN NEW YORK CITY WE -- IN ALABAMA, JONATHAN CAN DRIVE RIGHT A FARM AND FIND A CHICKEN GROWER.

FOR A LOT OF US IT IS NOT EASY.

FINDING THE PERFECTLY GROWN VEGETABLE OR WHATEVER, IT IS TAKEN AWAY FROM OUR FOOD SYSTEM.

OF COURSE, IT MAKES YOU THINK OF FARMERS AND SO MANY OTHER FOOD SOURCES THAT I AM SURE CAN RELATE TO YOUR STORY.

I WANT TO TURN BACK TO THE RESTAURANT A LITTLE BIT.

IT DOES POKE FUN AT WHAT A LOT OF US HAVE BOUGHT INTO.

THE NOTION OF ORGANIC AND YOU KNOW LOCALLY SOURCED AND YOU LIKE PULL THE RUG OUT FROM UNDERNEATH ALL OF IT.

THE GOAL IS HOW CAN I GIVE YOU WHAT YOU WANT?

IF IT WORKS THERE, IT WILL WORK IN MOST PLACES IN AMERICA.

WE TEST THE RESTAURANT THERE AND IT IS EXPLODED.

NOW, WE ARE OPENING THEM ONE ON 23rd STREET IN NEW YORK CITY.

THERE ARE SIGNS EVERYWHERE DEPICT THE ENTIRE PROCESS OF FARM, NOT TABLE BUT YOUR TRADE.

HOW IT GOES INTO THE MARKETING AND WANTING IT OR DESIRE IT.

THE PRICE OF MY CATTLE DROP FROM $1,400 TO $500 OR $600.

SO MY CATTLE OPERATION TOOK A HIT TOO BECAUSE OF OUR CORRUPT CONGRESS AND USDA.

33 FARMERS GO OUT OF BUSINESS EVERY SINGLE DAY.

IT IS BEEN TAKEN OVER BY LARGE CORPORATIONS THAT DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU OR YOUR HELP OR THE ANIMALS.

I WANT SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS.

CONGRESS NEEDS TO GET UP AND GET OFF THEIR REARS AND GET STARTED OUT HERE AND SLAVE THE FAMILY'S FARM.

SPEAKING OF CARING ABOUT THE ANIMALS AND EVEN IN THE RESTAURANT, THERE IS A SECTION OF HOW BIG A FREE RANGE CHICKEN GETS THROWN AROUND.

THIS IS THE NEW COSTCO, COSTCO IS GOING INTO BUSINESS, THEY'RE 40% THERE ROTISERRI CHICKEN.

AND SO I AM SURE THEY'RE GETTING FDA MONEY TO COME IN.

THEY'RE TAKING FARMERS OUT OF THE PICTURE.

LARGE CORPORATIONS ARE TAKEN OVER THIS.

THE FOOD SITUATION WILL ONLY GET WORSE.

AND ALL THAT GET WORSE WITH THE LARGE CORPORATIONS AND FAMILY FARMS OUT OF BUSINESS.

THEY'RE PREDICTING THREE OR FOUR OR FIVE YEARS ONLY 100,000 FARMERS LEFT.

ONCE PEOPLE HAVE SEEN THIS FILM AND HAD A GREAT CHICKEN.

IT IS SOME GREAT CHICKEN SANDWICHES THAT YOU MAKE.

WHAT DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO TAKE AWAY FROM THIS?

THERE IS AS FEW THINGS.

THE FILM AND THE EXPERIENCE OF THE RESTAURANT GIVES YOU A GREAT IDEA UNDERSTANDING THE POWER YOU HAVE.

YOU ARE CREATING A SYSTEM OUTSIDE OF A SYSTEM WHERE CHICKEN FARMERS CAN LIVE AND WORK AND SUPPORT THEIR FAMILY AND THE COMMUNITY.

WHAT THEY DO IS THEY TURN A BLIND EYE IS WHAT'S GOING ON OUT FARMERS CAN'T PAY THEM.

THEN THEY COME OUT OF TWO OR THREE YEARS.

WE NEED TO SHUT THE USDA AND CLOSE ALL PROCESSING.

FAMILY FARMERS HAVE PROCESS PLANTS AND SO SOME OF THEM THEY BASICALLY SHUT THEM DOWN AND MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR A SMALL FARMER TO EXIST IF THEY WANTED TO PROCESS THEIR OWN CATTLE OR CHICKENS AND SELL OUT.

ONE MORE QUESTION.

HOW MUCH OF THE PRICE AMERICANS ARE INSISTING TO PAY DRIVING THIS PROBLEM THAT JONATHAN IS FACING.

LOOKING TO TAKE AS MUCH MONEY OUT OF THE SYSTEM BUT YOU HAVE PEOPLE TO REINVEST THAT SO THE PEOPLE AT THE BOTTOM HAVE ACCESS TO BETTER FOOD.

PART OF THAT COMES DOWN TO PEOPLE LIKE US, WE CAN DO BETTER TO MAKE THAT FOOD MORE AVAILABLE WHICH MAKES THE PRICE GO LOWER.

JONATHAN, DO YOU THINK IT IS POSSIBLE FOR SMALL FAMILY FARMS TO BE ABLE TO COME BACK IN A WAY THEY'RE ABLE TO ACTUALLY FEED THE LOCAL PUBLIC WITHIN THEIR COMMUNITIES SO THAT PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY EATING FOOD THAT HAS NOT TRAVELED ACROSS THE COUNTRY OR MASS PRODUCE.

MAYBE YOU CAN'T GET EVERYTHING YOU WANT AND THROW AWAY HALF OF IT BECAUSE YOU DID NOT GET A CHANCE TO EAT IT.

WHAT HAPPENS WAS HE MOTIVATED TO BE SUCCESSFUL AND HE KNEW WHERE HE WAS.

HE WAS BORN IN PUERTO RICO.

I CAN CLEARLY UNDERSTAND WHEN HE SPEAKS SHAKESPEARIAN AND NOT ONLY THAT, HE DOES IT SO NATURALLY.

HE WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST OF THE LATE 20th CENTURY.

WHAT MAKES THIS PUERTO RICAN ACTOR SUCH A GREAT SHAKESPEARIAN ACT?

HE LOVES ACTING AND HE LOVED THE WORDS HIMSELF.

THE STORY TELLER OF THE SPANISH HERITAGE SINCE HIGH SCHOOL.

HE ALWAYS STUDIED THEM AND ALWAYS APPRECIATED IT AND ALWAYS WAS SPEAKING THOSE WORDS.

IT DID NOT COME AS A NOVELTY TO HIM.

HE DID A LOT OF THINGS WHICH GAVE HIM GREAT PLEASURE.

IT WOULD SAY THAT IS ONE THING THAT INSPIRES ME.

AFTER WHEN HE PASSED AWAY, WHEN PEOPLE WOULD ASK ME CAN HE DO THIS OR THAT?

I WOULD TRY TO BE LIKE HIM AND SAY YES.

I HOPE I HAVE DONE THAT AS MUCH AS I CAN IN HIS NAME.

HE WAS A FULLY SELF EXPRESSED PERSON AND FULLY SELF-EXPRESSED AND JOYFUL THROUGHOUT HIS LIFE WHEN THINGS WERE NOT GOING AS HE WOULD HAVE LIKED THEM TO GO.

HE STILL HAD THE CAPACITY TO SAY OKAY, THAT'S NOT GOING SO WELL BUT ALL THE REST OF MY LIFE, I HAVE TO LIVE A GREAT JOY IN THE MOMENT.
