TONIGHT ON METROFOCUS

The e-commerce giant is coming to Long Island City and bringing 25,000 jobs with it. Will the big business bring a welcome boost to the economy? Or does this spell trouble for the little guy in Queens? For the first time in 50 years Democrats control the power in Albany, but what will they do with it? We’ll discuss. She’s the Supreme Court justice who’s tough as nails. After fracturing three ribs in a fall, Ruth Bader Ginsburg is already back to work showing the world why she is the “Notorious RBG.” Channel 13 President Emeritus Dr. Bill Baker takes us to his hometown in Greenwich, Connecticut to share an amazing tale of art and history.

GOOD EVENING.

WELCOME TO 'METROFOCUS.'

I'M RAFAEL PI ROMAN.

THIS MORNING AMAZON ANNOUNCED IT HAS SELECTED LONG ISLAND CITY QUEENS AND THE CRYSTAL CITY NEIGHBORHOOD OF ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA, AS THE LOCATIONS FOR THE COMPANY'S NEW HEADQUARTERS.

IT WAS JUST OVER A YEAR AGO THAT THE E-COMMERCE GIANT ANNOUNCED IT WOULD OPEN A SECOND CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS H Q2.

THE COMPANY SAID IT WILL INVEST $5 BILLION AND CREATE MORE THAN 50,000 JOBS ON H Q2 WHICH IT HAS NOW DECIDED TO DIVIDE INTO TWO SEPARATE HEADQUARTERS.

A REACTION TO THE DECISION, GOVERNOR CUOMO SAID WITH THE AVERAGE SALARY OF $50,000 A YEAR WHICH THEY WILL BE PAYING THE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF NEW EMPLOYEES THEY'LL BE CREATING INVESTMENTS IN QUEENS THAT WILL QUOTE, FLOURISH FOR THE ENTIRE REGION.

SO NOW THAT THE RUMORS HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED, WHAT WILL THIS ALL MEAN FOR LONG ISLAND CITY AND THE SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOODS AND WHAT WILL IT MEAN FOR ALL OF US HERE IN NEW YORK?

I SAT DOWN WITH AMY PLIT THE EDITOR FROM CURB NEW YORK AND I ASKED HER IF THE COMPANY'S DECISION TO DIVIDE HQ2 INTO SEPARATE OFFICES DIMINISHES THE CACHET OF THE LOCATIN.

YOU KNOW, THERE ARE SOME CRITICS WHO SAID THAT AMAZON LAUNCHED THE WHOLE SEARCH.

THAT CITIES WERE VYING FOR, CITIES WERE RENAMING THEMSELVES AND PITCHING ALL OF THESE RIDICULOUS THINGS TO GET AMAZON TO COME THERE AND ULTIMATELY THEY'RE ENDING UP WITH TWO, ALMOST SATELLITE OFFICES.

SO IT'S NOT QUITE AS BIG OF A DEAL I THINK AS IT WAS ORIGINALLY PITCHED TO BE.

BUT IT'S STILL GOING TO BE --

STILL GOING TO BE HUGE.

BY THE WAY, TALKING ABOUT THEM MY NEXT QUESTION IS WHAT DID THE CITY HAVE TO GIVE, TO OFFER, TO GIVE TO FOLKS AT AMAZON OVER HERE?

I KNOW GOVERNOR CUOMO SAID HE'LL RENAME HIMSELF AS AMAZON CUOMO.

WHAT DOES NEW YORK CITY OR THE STATE GET IN RETURN FOR WHATEVER IT IS THAT WE OFFERED AMAZON?

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HAVING HQ2 DIVIDED BY TWO HERE?

SO AMAZON HAS PITCHED ITS HQ2 AS A BIG JOBS GENERATOR.

IT WOULD BRING 25,000 JOBS TO NEW YORK CITY.

WHICH IS A PRETTY BIG IMPACT.

IT HAS SAID IN SEATTLE WHERE IT HAS ITS CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS WHICH I GUESS WE'RE CALLING THAT HQ1 THAT IT'S ADDED BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO THE ECONOMY BECAUSE YOU HAVE WORKERS THERE.

YOU HAVE PEOPLE WHO ARE BUILDING THEIR OFFICES.

YOU HAVE ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT WAYS THAT MONEY IS BEING BROUGHT BACK INTO THE COMMUNITY.

SO THAT'S AMAZON'S PITCH.

YOU KNOW, WE'LL BRING MONEY AND JOBS TO YOUR CITY IF YOU GIVE US LAND AND SUBSIDIES.

THINGS LIKE THAT.

SO WHAT ARE THE DOWNSIDES?

SO I THINK IT'S HARD TO SAY WHAT THE DOWNSIDES WILL BE BUT IF YOU LOOK AT SEATTLE WHERE THE HOUSING PRICES HAVE GONE UP ASTRONOMICALLY, THE LACK OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING HAS CONTRIBUTED TO A HUGE HOMELESSNESS CRISIS IN THAT AREA.

25,000 PEOPLE IS GOING TO HAVE AN IMPACT ON THE HOUSING NO MATTER HOW YOU --

ABSOLUTELY.

HOW YOU SLICE IT.

AND 25,000 PEOPLE ON THE INFRASTRUCTURE IN LONG ISLAND CITY, EVEN IF THEY DON'T LIVE THERE YOU HAVE PEOPLE COMING IN AND OUT, YOU KNOW, TAKING THE SUBWAY.

WHICH AS WE ALL KNOW IS A MESS.

TRANSPORTATION.

I MEAN THE ONLY LINE THAT GOES FROM LONG ISLAND CITY TO MANHATTAN IS THE 7 TRAIN.

YEAH.

IT'S ALREADY OVERWHELMED.

IT IS.

IT'S OVERWHELMED.

THE SIGNAL MODERNIZATION ALONG THE 7 LINE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF THE YEAR WHICH WOULD IN THEORY MAKE THINGS A LITTLE BIT BETTER BECAUSE YOU COULD RUN MORE TRAINS.

BUT A COUPLE MORE TRAINS.

JUST A COUPLE MORE TRAINS.

THE RELIABILITY WOULD HOPEFULLY BE BETTER, BUT AGAIN, YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ON A TRAIN THAT'S ALREADY REALLY CRUSHED FOR SPACE.

WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER INFRASTRUCTURE?

I MEAN, YOU TALK ABOUT SEWAGE TO SCHOOLS.

YEAH.

YEAH.

SO THE CITY HAD ANNOUNCED JUST A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO IT'S INVESTING AN ADDITIONAL $180 MILLION TO IMPROVE THE INFRASTRUCTURE IN LONG ISLAND CITY.

IT WAS SUSPICIOUSLY WELL TIMED BUT PART IS IMPROVING THE SEWAGE SYSTEM AND RESILIENCY MEASURES BECAUSE IT'S ON THE WATERFRONT AND VERY VULNERABLE TO THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE.

IT IS ALSO GOING TO BRING A NEW SCHOOL IN THE AREA AROUND COURT SQUARE AND THAT'S ONE SCHOOL.

SO THE CITY IS PUTTING MONEY INTO THE NEIGHBORHOOD TO HOPEFULLY ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS BUT THERE'S STILL --

CLEARLY, IT WILL AFFECT MORE THAN JUST LONG ISLAND CITIES, IT WILL AFFECT THE SONNY SIDE, UP TO WOODSIDE.

MAYBE QUEENS WILL BE GENTRIFIED.

SOMETHING THAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SAYING FOR DECADES.

YEAH.

I LIVED IN ASTORIA IN 2004 AND PEOPLE SAID THEY'LL GENTRIFY AND --

I LIVED IN WOODSIDE FOR 15 YEARS.

I HE WANT HEARING THAT THE WHOLE TIME.

SO FINALLY, HOW WILL IT CHANGE NEW YORK CITY ITSELF?

I MEAN, YOU KNOW, WE WANTED TO BE A HIGH-TECH HUB.

I GUESS THIS WILL MAKE IT SO.

BUT DO WE REALLY WANT TO BE SILICON VALLEY EAST?

DO WE WANT TO BE SAN FRANCISCO EAST?

THE CITY REALLY WANTS THAT.

YOU KNOW, THERE WAS THE REZONING THAT HAPPENED EARLIER THIS YEAR FOR THE TECH HUB AT UNION SQUARE, THE INNOVATION CENTER WITH A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT OFFERINGS FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT BEING MORE INVOLVED IN THE TECH INDUSTRY.

YOU SEE THE TECH CENTERS, ONE IS OPENING IN RED HOOK.

YOU HAVE CORNELL TECH JUST ACROSS THE RIVER FROM LONG ISLAND CITY.

SO I KNOW -- THE CITY DEFINITELY WANTS TO BOLSTER ITS REPUTATION AS A PLACE FOR TECH WORKERS AND THAT KIND OF SILICON ALLEY RATHER THAN SILICON VALLEY.

BUT YOU HAVE TO WONDER WHAT IS THIS GOING TO MEAN FOR THE NEIGHBORHOODS OUTSIDE OF LONG ISLAND CITY THAT MIGHT SEE THIS RIPPLE EFFECT AND HOUSING PRICES GOING UP.

THANK YOU FOR JOINING US.

THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME.

> LAST WEEK'S MIDTERM ELECTION HANDED DEMOCRATS A COMMANDING MAJORITY IN THE STATE SENATE AND LEFT REPUBLICANS IN THE STATE REELING.

DEMOCRATS NOW HAVE FIRM CONTROL OF EVERY BRANCH OF STATE GOVERNMENT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MORE THAN HALF A CENTURY.

IN NEW YORK, AT LEAST, A BLUE WAVE WAS VERY REAL.

SO NOW WHAT?

CAN WE EXPECT THE LONG LIST OF PROGRESSIVE BILLS COMING OUT OF ALBANY RIGHT AWAY OR WILL GOVERNOR CUOMO PUT THE BRAKES ON HIS FELLOW DEMOCRATS?

AND FOR REPUBLICANS, WHERE DO THEY GO FROM HERE, HOW THAT I DO MOVE FORWARD AFTER A SERIES OF MASSIVE LOSSES UP AND DOWN THE BALLOT?

JOINING ME NOW WITH SOME ANSWERS IS CITY AND STATE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF JONATHAN LENZ.

WELCOME BACK TO THE PROGRAM.

GLAD TO BE HERE.

LET'S START OFF WITH THE STATE GOP.

NOW WHAT SEEMS LIKE A BIG QUESTION.

YEAH, WELL, TWO OF THE THINGS TO WATCH NOW IS THE LEADERSHIP.

ED KOCH, EVERYONE CALLS FOR HIM TO BE REMOVED.

HE SAYS HE'LL STAY ON.

AND ALSO THE STATE SENATE REPUBLICAN LEADER JOHN FLANAGAN.

HE HAD TERRIBLE LOSSES ON ELECTION DAY.

THERE HAVE BEEN CALLS FOR HIM TO STEP ASIDE.

UNCLEAR IF THAT'LL HAPPEN.

ONE THING TO KEEP IN MIND IF HE STAYS ON IN THE CONFERENCE, DOESN'T EVEN RESIGN FROM THE LEGISLATURE, WHICH HE'D BE MORE INCLINED TO DO IF HE STAYS THE LEADER THAT'S ONE MORE LONG ISLAND SEAT THAT REPUBLICANS CAN'T AFFORD TO LOSE.

THEY ALREADY LOST I THINK SIX OUT OF THE NINE SEATS.

YES.

THAT'S TRUE.

SO ONE OF THE PROBLEMS THAT I UNDERSTAND WAS THAT THEY WERE HAVING A VERY DIFFICULT TIME DIFFERENTIATING THEMSELVES FROM THE PRESIDENT RIGHT NOW.

THAT SO MANY PEOPLE WERE TYING ALL REPUBLICANS ACROSS THE BOARD TO THE PRESIDENT AND SOME PEOPLE WERE SAYING THAT'S WHERE THE HEAVY LOSSES WERE COMING FROM.

YEAH.

I THINK THAT WAS ACTUALLY A FAIRLY EFFECTIVE STRATEGY OF DEMOCRATS TO TIE REPUBLICANS TO THE PRESIDENT.

AND TO THAT POINT, YOU KNOW, REALLY HOW RESPONSIBLE IS ED KOCH WHO LEADS THE STATE REPUBLICANS, HOW RESPONSIBLE IS FLANAGAN WHO LEADS THE SENATE REPUBLICANS?

THEY DID THE BEST THEY COULD IN A YEAR LIKE THIS AND IT WON'T GET ANY EASIER.

TWO YEARS FROM NOW, IT WILL BE A PRESIDENTIAL YEAR.

THAT'S TYPICALLY WHERE DEMOCRATS HAVE DONE WELL IN NEW YORK.

SO THE IDEA THAT, YOU KNOW, MAYBE REPUBLICANS COULD WIN A FEW SEATS BACK IT WILL BE A REALLY TOUGH LANDSCAPE FOR THEM 2020.

WELL, SPEAKING OF DEMOCRATS, THEY NOW CONTROL AS I SAID ALL OF THE BRANCHES OF STATE GOVERNMENT.

SO I GUESS A LIBERAL MIGHT SAY HOW ARE THEY GOING TO SCREW THIS UP?

WELL, THEY HAVE DONE IT BEFORE.

EXACTLY.

YEAH.

AFTER THE 2008 ELECTION, OBAMA WAVE THAT BROUGHT IN A DEMOCRATIC MAJORITY IN THE STATE SENATE.

THEY DID SOME THINGS THAT WAS WIDELY SEEN AS FOCUSING ON NEW YORK CITY.

BENEFITING NEW YORK CITY.

THAT'S SOMETHING THAT YOU HEARD ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL AS WELL.

REPUBLICANS WERE SAYING THAT DEMOCRATS, IF THEY WIN THE SENATE THEY'LL JUST HELP BILL de BLASIO, NEW YORK CITY'S LIBERAL MAYOR.

THAT TIME AROUND ONE THING THEY DID WAS THIS MTA PAYROLL TAX THAT WAS VERY CONTROVERSIAL.

SOMETHING SUBURBAN LAWMAKERS AND THEIR CONSTITUENTS REALLY OPPOSED.

TWO LONG ISLAND DEMOCRATS IN THE STATE SENATE SUBSEQUENTLY LOST.

LARGELY ATTRIBUTED TO THAT.

THERE WAS ALSO A LOT OF CHAOS IN THOSE YEARS.

BUT YOU MENTIONED THE MTA.

I KNOW THAT'S SOMETHING THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE IN THE CITY ARE PUTTING A LOT OF PRESSURE ON ALBANY FOR.

WE EVEN SAW CYNTHIA NIXON HER WHOLE CAMPAIGN FOR GOVERNOR WAS ABOUT THE MISFUNCTION OF THE MTA.

HOW DO THEY ADDRESS THIS?

THE FIRST THING IS CONGESTION PRICING.

WE HEARD THAT DEBATE LAST YEAR.

DIDN'T GET DONE.

THE GOVERNOR HAS SAID THAT CONGESTION PRICING HAS TO GET DONE.

IT'S REALLY THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN ADDRESS THE CRISIS IN THE MTA, THE SUBWAYS.

AND IF THE GOVERNOR WANTS IT DONE THERE'S A GOOD CHANCE IT WILL GET DONE.

THAT'S REALLY THE PERSON TO WATCH THE MOST HERE.

SO THE QUESTION IS HOW WILL DIFFERENT PARTIES BENEFIT FROM THAT OR LOSE FROM THAT?

WILL SUBURBAN COMMUTERS DRIVING INTO MANHATTAN BE UNHAPPY ABOUT THAT, COULD THAT HURT SOME DEMOCRATIC LAWMAKERS, IT MIGHT.

SO THEY HAVE TO BALANCE IT OUT AND TRY TO MAKE IT SO IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE BENEFITING NEW YORK CITY THAT'S NOT THE ONLY THING.

THAT'S NOT EVEN GOING TO BRING ENOUGH MONEY TO FIX THE SUBWAYS.

YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING IN ADDITION TO THAT BILL de BLASIO WANTS A MILLIONAIRE'S TAX.

WILL THAT HAPPEN?

THAT SEEMS EVEN MORE OF A LIFT.

OKAY.

BUT OTHER -- ANY OTHER KIND OF PROGRESSIVE LAWS THAT WE COULD SEE OR LEGISLATION THAT WE COULD SEE COMING OUT OF ALBANY THAT WE MIGHT SEE HAPPENING SOON?

WELL, TYING THAT INTO THE PREVIOUS POINT I THINK IT REALLY TIES TO WHAT IS GOING TO COST MORE.

WHAT IS GOING TO ADD MORE TO THE BUDGET.

WHAT IS GOING TO RAISE TAXES POTENTIALLY?

THEY'LL TRY TO AVOID THOSE THINGS.

AT LEAST THE GOVERNOR WILL TRY TO AVOID THOSE THINGS.

GUN CONTROL, WE HAVE SEEN SHOOTINGS LATELY.

THE GOVERNOR SAID WE NEED STRONGER GUN CONTROL REGULATIONS IN THE STATE.

ROE V. WADE THERE'S A LOT OF TALK IN THE SUPREME COURT.

THE GOVERNOR SAID WE'RE GOING TO PUT IN IN THE STATE LAW SO IF THE NATION OVERTURNS THIS THIS IS IN PLACE.

I'M GUESSING THAT'S THE LOW HANGING FRUIT.

CORRECT.

ANY OTHER LEGISLATION WE MIGHT SEE?

WE SAW PEOPLE WHO GOT INTO STATE GOVERNOR WHO RAN ON A MUCH MORE PROGRESSIVE PLATFORM.

I'M WONDERING IF THERE'S ANY KIND OF LEGISLATION THEY MIGHT PUT FORWARD THAT WE MIGHT SEE GOVERNOR CUOMO PUSH BACK ON AND SAY NO?

TWO THINGS, REGULATION.

YOU SAW THE MORE PROGRESSIVE CANDIDATES PUSHING FOR STRENGTHENING REGULATIONS.

THE HISTORY HAS BEEN EVERY FOUR YEARS THIS LAW LAPSES.

YOU HAVE TO RENEW IT.

AND THEY HAVE STEADILY ERODED SOME OF THE PROTECTIONS FOR TENANTS, MADE IT EASIER FOR LANDLORDS TO GET TENANTS OUT OF RENT REGULATION.

YOU CAN SEE EFFORTS GOING THE OTHER WAY.

THE GOVERNOR WHO KNOWS HOW FAR HE'LL WANT TO GO ON THAT.

THE DREAM ACT.

THAT'S ANOTHER BIG PUSH TO HELP UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS IN NEW YORK.

WHETHER THAT HAPPENS IS UNCLEAR.

SO I WANT TO THANK YOU AGAIN FOR GIVING US A BETTER VIEW ON HOW ALBANY WORKS FOR US.

THANK YOU.

> JUST ONE DAY AFTER SUPREME COURT JUSTICE RUTH BADER GINSBURG WAS ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL FOR BROKEN RIBS SHE IS BACK AT WORK AND PLANS TO BE ON THE BENCH AT THE NEXT SITTING OF THE SUPREME COURT AT NOVEMBER 26th.

GINSBURG WHO HAS BECOME AN IMPROBABLE POP CULTURE ICON AND IS SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS THE NOTORIOUS RBG IS THE SUBJECT OF A NEW DOCUMENTARY TITLED 'RBG' WHICH FOLLOWS HER JOURNEY TO THE NATION'S HIGHEST COURT.

I ASK NO FAVOR FOR MY SEX.

ALL I ASK IS OUR BRETHREN IS THEY TAKE THEIR FEET OFF OUR NECKS.

WE WELCOME TODAY JUSTICE RUTH BADER GINSBURG.

SHE'S BECOME SUCH AN ICON.

DO YOU MIND SIGNING THIS COPY?

I'M 84 YEARS OLD AND EVERYONE WANTS TO TAKE A PICTURE WITH ME.

NOTORIOUS RBG.

YEAH.

WHEN YOU COME RIGHT DOWN TO IT, THE CLOSEST THING TO THE SUPERHERO I KNOW.

RUTH BADER GINSBURG CHANGED THE WORLD FOR AMERICAN WOMEN.

JACK FORD RECENTLY SAT DOWN WITH THE AWARD WINNING FILMMAKERS BETSY WEST AND COHEN AND ASKED THEM IF THEY'D COME UP WITH SUCH AN INTERESTING FILM.

WE WERE PRETTY SURE AS YOU MENTIONED SHE'S BECOME THE NOTORIOUS RBG.

SHE HAS SO MANY FANS BUT BOTH JULIE AND I HAD INTERVIEWED JUSTICE GINSBURG BEFORE HER INTERNET FAME.

THE FACT THAT SHE'S REALLY THE LEGAL ARCHITECT OF THE WOMEN'S MOVEMENT AND A ROMANCE, AND WE FELT THIS COULD MAKE A GOOD DOCUMENTARY.

IF WE GET HER COOPERATION, LET'S TRY TO DO IT.

HOW DID YOU FIND YOU WERE ABLE TO GET THE ACCESS THAT YOU NEEDED TO DO THIS?

AND WAS IT A HARD SELL?

IT WAS A LONG, SLOW SELL.

PUT IT THAT WAY.

WHEN WE FIRST APPROACHED JUSTICE GINSBURG WITH THIS IDEA IN EARLY 2015 SAYING WE WANT TO TELL YOUR LIFE STORY AS A DOCUMENTARY, SHE SAID NOT YET.

AND DID YOU GET THE KIND OF ACCESS THAT YOU WOULD HOPE TO GET?

WE DID.

WE DID.

HOW AND WHY HAS SHE BECOME THIS ENORMOUS ICON?

THIS CULTURAL ICON AMONGST -- I'M ASTONISHED ABOUT HOW MANY OF THE YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE LATCHED ON TO HER.

YEAH.

WHY?

ABSOLUTELY.

I MEAN, IT'S AN UNUSUAL COUNTERPART FROM OUR USUAL, YOU KNOW, KARDASHIAN SAY INTERNET ICON.

NO DISRESPECT TO THE KARDASHIANS.

BUT THEY'RE A BIT DIFFERENT.

THEY HAVEN'T EXACTLY HAD THE ACHIEVEMENTS, YOU KNOW, IN CHANGING THE WAY WE VIEW THE CONSTITUTION THAT SAY RUTH BADER GINSBURG HAS.

WE THINK THAT IN PART THE YOUNG PEOPLE KIND OF LIKE THE JUXTAPOSITION OF THIS TINY LITTLE SOFT-SPOKEN INTELLECTUAL 85-YEAR-OLD GRANDMA WHO, YOU KNOW, THE KIND OF THING THAT HAPPENED ON THE INTERNET.

THEY PUT THE CROWNS ON HER HEAD.

THERE ARE TOTE BAGS, TATTOOS.

A NUMBER OF PEOPLE HAVE RBG TATTOOS.

YOU WILL SEE IT IN THE FILM AND SHE DOESN'T LIKE IT AT ALL.

DID IT SHED ANY LIGHT ON YOU OF THE CONCEPT OF JUSTICE, THE WAY SHE APPROACHES THE CONCEPT OF JUSTICE AND THE ROLE OF A JUSTICE IN THE SYSTEM?

YEAH.

I MEAN, I'M NOT A LAWYER.

I THINK WORKING ON THIS FILM GAVE ME A GREATER RESPECT FOR THE ROLE OF THE JUDICIARY ESPECIALLY AT A TIME WHEN, YOU KNOW, OUR INSTITUTIONS HAVE BEEN UNDER FIRE.

AND TO SEE THE IMPACT THAT JUSTICE GINSBURG'S WORK HAS HAD ON WOMEN ESPECIALLY.

WHAT -- WHERE DID YOU GET TO THAT YOU NEVER ANTICIPATED OR THAT SURPRISED YOU THE MOST FROM THIS?

I THINK I WAS SURPRISED BY THE DEPTH OF JUSTICE GINSBURG'S ROMANCE, LOVE STORY WITH MARTY GINSBURG.

WE KNEW THAT SHE HAD A LONG AND HAPPY MARRIAGE.

BUT THE ROLE THAT HE PLAYED IN HER LIFE IN BOTH HER PERSONAL HAPPINESS AND HER PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS A SUPPORTIVE HUSBAND, THAT TO ME WAS EXTRAORDINARY.

YOU KNOW, HE WAS SO PROUD OF HER FROM THE MOMENT THEY MET AT CORNELL, SHE WAS SO BRILLIANT.

HE RECOGNIZED IT.

HERE SHE IS, A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN.

YOU SEE HOW BEAUTIFUL SHE WAS AND MARTY LOVED HER BECAUSE SHE HAD A BRAIN.

THAT WENT ON THROUGHOUT THEIR CAREER.

YOU KNOW, HE WAS A VERY OUTGOING, AFFABLE GUY.

HE WOUND UP LOBBYING FOR HER TO BE ON THE SUPREME COURT.

APPARENTLY VERY SUCCESSFULLY AND YOU KNOW, THAT'S A VERY SURPRISING AND MOVING STORY.

YOU BOTH HAVE HAD GREAT SUCCESS IN THE BUSINESS.

BUT THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE BEST OF FILMMAKING, THE BEST IT CAN SHOW US.

ENTERTAINING, ENGAGING, INFORMATIVE AND IMPRESSIVE IN A LOT OF WAYS.

SO CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WORK.

THANK YOU.

I THINK PEOPLE ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS.

BETSY AND JULIE, ALWAYS GOOD TO SEE YOU.

> WHEN PEOPLE HEAR GREENWICH, CONNECTICUT, THEY THINK OF BIG MANSIONS AND HEDGE FUNDS BUT THERE'S A LOT MORE TO THE NEIGHBOR LESS THAN 30 MILES TO OUR NORTH AND ONE OF THOSE THINGS IS AMAZING HISTORY.

DR. BILL BAKER, 13'S PRESIDENT EMERITUS, LIVES THERE AND HE HAS MORE.

AT 377 YEARS OLD, GREENWICH IS ONE OF THE OLDEST COMMUNITIES IN THE TRI-STATE AREA.

IT HAS SOMETHING NEW TO CELEBRATE.

THE CAMPUS OF THE GREENWICH HISTORICAL SOCIETY HAS JUST OPENED FEATURING THE HISTORIC SITE OF THE BEGINNING OF AMERICAN IMPRESSIONIST ART.

DEBORAH MECHY IS THE DIRECTOR.

THIS OPENED A MUSEUM AND IT DOES NOT ONLY SHOW CASE THE OLD 18th CENTURY HISTORY BUT ALSO AN ERA WHEN IT BECAME A BOARDING HOUSE AND IT BECAME A SEAT OF THE COLONY.

THE COST KOHL BART COLONY WAS FOUNDED TEN YEARS BEFORE THERE EVER WAS AN ART COLONY SO WE CALL THIS THE CRADLE OF AMERICAN IMPRESSIONISM.

THE TRAIN CAME HERE IN 1848 AND TRANSFORMED THE SLEEPY RURAL TOWN INTO THE COMMUTER TOWN AND RESORT FOR NEW YORKERS.

IT ALSO IS WHAT BROUGHT THE ARTISTS HERE TO COST COBB.

IT WAS A 45 MINUTE RIDE, THE ARTISTS COULD WALK THREE MINUTES TO THE HOLLEY HOUSE WHERE THEY COULD BOARD THE COMMUNITY AND SET UP THEIR EASELS AND PAINT THE COLONIAL ARCHITECTURES AND COASTAL AREA.

TODAY WE ARE SHARING OUR JOY AND EXCITEMENT AT COMPLETING BOTH THE RE-IMAGINED CAMPUS AND THE RE-IMAGINED CAMPAIGN.

THIS IS THE RESULT OF PLANNING THAT STARTED ABOUT SIX YEARS AGO.

AND WHAT MADE THIS ALL POSSIBLE WAS THAT ANONYMOUS DONORS STEPPED IN AND SAID THAT THEY WOULD MATCH DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR EVERY DOLLAR THAT WAS RAISED BY THE CAMPAIGN UP TO THE GOAL OF $13.5 MILLION.

SO THE ANONYMOUS DONOR HAS MATCHED 6,$750,000 AND THE CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE RAISED THE OTHER $6,750,000.

THE CONSTRUCTION WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO START UNTIL A VERY SUBSTANTIAL PORTION OF THE MONEY HAD BEEN RAISED.

I URGED AND THE BOARD AGREED TO LET THE CONSTRUCTION START A YEAR EARLIER WHILE WE WERE RAISING THE MONEY.

AND IN FACT, THE PROJECT HAS BEEN COMPLETED APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AHEAD OF SCHEDULE.

AND SLIGHTLY UNDERBUDGET.

ONE OF THE GREAT LADIES, CLAIRE VANDERBILT, WITHOUT HER WE WOULDN'T BE HERE BECAUSE I-95 WAS ORIGINALLY TO GO RIGHT THROUGH THE BUSH HOLLEY HOUSE.

CLAIRE VANDERBILT WAS THE FORCE BEHIND THE GREENWICH HISTORICAL SOCIETY.

SHE WAS A VERY GOOD FRIEND OF JOHN DAVIS LODGE WHO HAPPENED TO BE GOVERNOR OF CONNECTICUT.

THE OFFICIAL TITLE OF I-95 IS THE JOHN DAVIS LODGE HIGHWAY.

AND I-95 HAS A GENTLE CURVE SO THAT IT GOES AROUND ITS SITE INSTEAD OF OVER IT.

THE BUILDING IN WHICH WE ARE NOW SITTING, TOBY'S TAVERN, IN THE 1850s AND '60s BECAME THE RAILROAD HOTEL.

AND THEN DAVID SCOTT PARKER, THE ARCHITECT FOR THE RE-IMAGINED CAMPUS HE FOUND A PAINTING OF TOBY'S TAVERN WITH AN ORGAN GRINDER AND A MONKEY OUTSIDE AND THE ARTIST SITTING AROUND DRINKING.

AND HE TOUPD -- FOUND PAINTINGS AND PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE EXTERIOR OF WHAT HAD BEEN THE RAILROAD HOTEL.

BASED ON THAT, WE REALIZED THAT THIS BUILDING COULD BE STRIPPED DOWN, RESTORED AND RECREATED.

WITH THE ACQUISITION OF TOBY'S TAVERN, THE GREENWICH HISTORICAL SOCIETY NOW HAS AN IMPRESSIVE ROW OF TWO 18th CENTURY BUILDINGS AND ONE FROM THE EARLY 19th CENTURY.

ON A STREET THAT IS AN HISTORICAL STREET WITH ALL OF THE PROPERTIES ON IT, HISTORIC PROPERTIES.

THE JURY IS OUT.

THIS NEW HISTORICAL SOCIETY IS AN ABSOLUTE HOME RUN.

THIS IS A DREAM COME TRUE.

ON THE MAJOR NEW BUILDING HERE ON THE GROUND LEVEL, YOU HAVE THE ENTRANCE ATRIUM.

ON YOUR LEFT ARE THE ARCHIVE AND THE READING ROOM.

DIRECTLY ABOVE THEM ARE TWO ART GALLERIES.

THE FIRST ONE HAS AN EXHIBITION ABOUT THE HISTORY OF GREENWICH.

THE SECOND IS CALLED THE PERMANENT GALLERY.

IN THAT IS A MAJOR PART OF THE IMPRESSIONIST PAINTING COLLECTION.

PAINTINGS THAT WERE PAINTED HERE.

PAINTINGS OF THE BUSH HOLLEY HOUSE, PAINTINGS OF THE HOLLEY FAMILY.

PAINTINGS DONE ON THE INTERIOR AND THE EXTERIOR.

COME ON IN.

AND ENJOY THE GALLERIES ON THE SECOND FLOOR.

THE LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES ON THE FIRST FLOOR.

MUSEUM STORE.

CAFE AND THE WONDERFUL GARDEN CENTER.

WE BELIEVE THAT THIS FACILITY NOW IS PERHAPS THE FINEST HOUSE MUSEUM FACILITY NOT ONLY OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH BUT THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT AND EVEN THE NATION.

IN TODAY'S DIGITAL AGE, COMPUTER SCREENS AND DEVICES ARE REDUCING OUR INTERACTION WITH PHYSICAL SURROUNDINGS AND FAST BECOMING THE LANDSCAPE WHERE MOST -- WE'RE MOST ACCUSTOMED TO, AT THE EXPENSE OF HOW WE VIEW OURSELVES AND OUR PLACE IN HISTORY.

THROUGH THE NEWLY RE-IMAGINED CAMPUS, THEY'RE MAKING THAT THE ILLUSTRIOUS PAST IS PRESERVED FOR GENERATIONS OF AMERICANS TO COME.

THIS IS BILL BAKER FOR 'METROFOCUS.'
