>> GOVERNOR ANDREW CUOMO IS
BLAMING THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND
PRESIDENT TRUMP FOR THE BRAWL
THAT TOOK PLACE BETWEEN THE FAR
RIGHT GROUP OUTSIDE THE
METROPOLITAN REPUBLICAN CLUB IN
MANHATTAN ON FRIDAY NIGHT.
OVER THE WEEKEND THE GOVERNOR
ANNOUNCED THAT HE WAS ORDERING
THE STATE POLICE HATE CRIMES
UNIT TO INVESTIGATE THE FIGHT
WHICH KICKED OFF AFTER AN
APPEARANCE AT THE CLUB BY THE
FOUNDER OF THE RIGHT WING GROUP,
THE PROUD BOYS.
CUOMO IS ASKING THE FBI TO
INVESTIGATE.
THE NYPD HAS DRAWN CRITICISM ON
SOCIAL MEDIA FOR THEIR HANDLING
OF THE VIOLENCE AFTER THREE
COUNTER PROTESTERS BUT NO PROUD
BOYS WERE ARRESTED FOLLOWING THE
INCIDENT.
JOINING ME NOW WITH THE DETAILS
AS WELL AS THE ROUND UP OF THE
METRO NEWS IS NEW YORK CITY
REPORTER FOR CITY AND STATE.
WELCOME BACK.
>> THANKS FOR HAVING ME ON.
>> LET'S START WITH THIS FIGHT
THAT TOOK PLACE.
TAKE US BACK TO FRIDAY NIGHT AND
WALK US THROUGH WHAT IT WAS THAT
ALLEGED TO HAVE HAPPENED.
>> JUST A DAY BEFORE THE SPEECH
WAS PLANNED, GAVEN McGINNIS, THE
FOUNDER OF A MOVEMENT CALLED THE
PROUD BOYS, SORT OF A FAR RIGHT
GROUP.
GAVEN WAS COMING TO SPEAK.
HE GOES AROUND REPUBLICAN CLUBS
IN THE COUNTRY.
THIS TIME THE METROPOLITAN GROUP
INVITED HIM.
HOWEVER, THE NIGHT BEFORE
THAT -- WE ARE NOT SURE WHO DID
IT, BUT IT SEEMED TO BE
ANARCHISTS, THEY DEFACED THE
METROPOLITAN REPUBLICAN CLUB.
THEY KNOCKED DOWN SOME WINDOWS
AND LEFT A NOTE BASICALLY SAYING
REPUBLICANS, YOUR TIME IS UP.
THERE IS A HISTORY OF HATE HERE
AND YOU DEMOCRATS, EVERYONE IS
TO BLAME.
IT WAS CLEARLY AN
ANTI-GOVERNMENT, NOT JUST
ANTI-REPUBLICAN BUT
ANTI-EVERYTHING GROUP DOING
THIS.
IMMEDIATELY, THE REPUBLICANS
STATEWIDE JUMPED ON THIS AND
SAID WE ARE UNDER ATTACK.
IT ESCALATED FROM THERE AFTER
THE DEFACEMENT AND VANDALISM OF
THE CLUB.
GAVEN McGINNIS DID SPEAK ON
FRIDAY NIGHT.
THEN THERE WERE COUNTER
PROTESTERS OUTSIDE THE EVENT AND
AFTER THE EVENT THERE WAS
VIOLENCE ON THE STREET.
THERE WERE PEOPLE GETTING PUSHED
TO THE GROUND AND KICKED.
>> THAT SEEMS TO BE THE CRUX OF
WHAT HAS MOST PEOPLE RILED UP.
>> THIS IS GOING OVER A COUPLE
OF DAYS.
THE VIOLENCE IS THE MAIN FOCUS
HERE AS IT SHOULD BE.
THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
VIOLENCE AGAINST PEOPLE AND
KNOCKING DOWN A FEW WINDOWS.
>> WHAT ABOUT THE CRITICISM OF
THE NYPD?
>> THE NYPD IS CRITICIZED FOR
ALLEGEDLY NOT ARRESTING THE
PROUD BOYS, THE ONES THAT WERE
KICKING PEOPLE ON THE GROUND.
I THINK AT THIS POINT, NOBODY
HAS ALL OF THE INFORMATION, ALL
OF THE VIDEOS, BUT THERE WAS
CLEARLY VIOLENCE AGAINST THESE
COUNTER PROTESTERS TO PEOPLE
UNHAPPY WITH THE PROUD BOYS
BEING IN MANHATTAN.
THERE HAVE BEEN ONLY THREE
ARRESTS THAT SEEM TO BE COUNTER
PROTESTERS, PEOPLE UNHAPPY WITH
THE PROUD BOYS.
PEOPLE HAVE LEDGED, DEMOCRATS
MOSTLY THAT THE NYPD HAS BEEN
SOFT ON THE PROUD BOY'S GROUP
NOT ARRESTING SOME WHO MAYBE
DESERVED TO BE ARRESTED.
>> AND THIS, OF COURSE, WOULD BE
WHY THE GOVERNOR IS ASKING FOR
THE INVESTIGATIONS?
>> HE SAID HE WILL PUT THE STATE
POLICE ON THE STORY, THE FBI IS
COMING IN.
THIS HAS ESCALATED BECAUSE THE
PROUD BOYS IS A RECOGNIZED HATE
GROUP BY THE LAW CENTER, THE
GROUP THAT FOLLOWS HATE GROUPS
AND CLASSIFIES THEM AND THAT
SORT OF THING.
THIS IS FAR BEYOND THE BORDERS
OF NEW YORK CITY.
>> WHAT IS THE STATE REPUBLICAN
PARTY SAYING RIGHT NOW?
ESPECIALLY SOMEONE LIKE MARK
MOLINARO?
>> HE IMMEDIATELY STOKED THE
FLAMES AND SAID GOVERNOR CUOMO
NEEDS TO APOLOGIZE FOR OUR CLUB
GETTING ATTACKED.
SINCE THEN HE HAS BACK TRACKED
SOMEWHAT AND SAYING THE PROUD
BOYS'S LEADER SHOULD HAVE NEVER
BEEN INVITED TO SPEAK.
HE SAID HE HAS READ UP ON HIM A
LITTLE BIT IN THE DAYS SINCE.
MOLINARO SAYS HE DOESN'T STAND
FOR HIS BRANCH OF THE REPUBLICAN
PARTY.
>> THANK YOU FOR RECAPPING ALL
OF THAT.
I COULDN'T HAVE YOU WITHOUT
TALKING ABOUT WINNERS AND LOSERS
ACROSS THE STATE.
WE HAVE TWO BIG NEW YORK ISSUES.
WE HAVE A BIG WINNER BEING THE
TEACHER'S UNION.
>> THAT'S RIGHT.
THE THE UNITED FEDERATION OF
TEACHERS HAS REACHED A CONTRACT
WITH NEW YORK CITY.
EDUCATION IS THE BIGGEST PIECE
OF THE NEW YORK CITY BUDGET AND
PAYING TEACHERS IS THE BIGGEST
PIECE OF THE EDUCATION BUDGET.
WE ARE TALKING BILLIONS OF
DOLLARS HERE.
IT REACHED BASICALLY A FOUR-YEAR
CONTRACT.
THE TEACHERS ARE GOING TO GET A
RAISE AND BACK PAY.
AND THE UNION LEADER IS OUR
WINNER THIS WEEK BECAUSE HE IS
VERY HAPPY WITH THIS.
GENERALLY NEW YORK CITY MAYOR
BILL DE BLASIO HAS BEEN PRETTY
RECEPTIVE.
THIS IS JUST THE LATEST EXAMPLE
OF A FAVORABLE CONTRACT TO THE
UNIONIZED TEACHERS.
>> AND A BIG LOSER WOULD BE DON
LOU.
>> FORMER NEW YORK CITY
COMPTROLLER IS TRYING TO MAKE A
COMEBACK RUNNING FOR STATE
SENATE.
HE WAS ONE OF THE CHALLENGERS TO
THE FORMER MEMBERS OF THE
INDEPENDENT DEMOCRATIC.
HE WAS ONE OF THE SIX
CHALLENGERS THAT WON THE
UNSEATED STATE SENATE DEMOCRAT.
THE PERSON HE BEAT, HE IS STILL
RUNNING IN THE GENERAL.
MOST OF THE OTHER MEMBERS HAVE
DECIDED THAT THEY ARE JUST GOING
TO SIT THIS ONE OUT AND RETIRE
AND LOST IN THE PRIMARY.
NOT TONY.
HE SAYS HE IS MOUNTING A THIRD
PARTY RUN AND RUN ON THE
INDEPENDENCE PARTY LINE AND
WOMEN'S EQUALITY PARTY LINE.
BASICALLY WE MADE JOHN LOU A
LOSER BECAUSE HE SHOULD BE JUST
CRUISING HIS WAY TO A GENERAL
ELECTION VICTORY.
HE IS STILL UP AGAINST SOMEBODY
WHO HAS BEEN ON THE BALLOT MANY
TIMES BEFORE, POPULAR GUY IN THE
DISTRICT.
>> I THINK ONCE AGAIN ANOTHER
GOOD REASON FOR PEOPLE TO GET
INFORMED AND KNOW YOUR BALLOT
AND GET OUT THE VOTE.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOINING
US.
THERE IS SO MUCH MORE I COULD
KEEP TALKING TO YOU ABOUT, BUT
UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE OUT OF
TIME.
