No trip to Coney Island would be complete without a stop at Nathan’s Famous in Brooklyn, but do you know the history behind those iconic hot dogs? Author, filmmaker, and grandson of its founder, Lloyd Handwerker tells the story of how his grandfather, Nathan Handwerker, started the family business and grew it into the American success story it is today. The New York Aquarium in Brooklyn is the oldest continually operating aquarium in the United States. Cristián Samper, president and CEO of The Wildlife Conservation Society, gives us an inside look. Meryl Meisler started a photo project in which she took photos of the people and places that celebrated the spirit of Bushwick. She joins us to talk about her book, “A Tale of Two Cities: Disco Era Bushwick.” From Coney Island to Williamsburg, Brooklyn has many varied and eclectic neighborhoods, so it’s easy to be overwhelmed when trying to decide which place to visit first.
