> GUN CONTROL IS ONCE AGAIN THE SUBJECT OF HOT DEBATE.

AND THIS TIME THE KIDS AREN'T GOING TO TAKE IT SITTING DOWN.

ON MARCH 14, STUDENTS ACROSS THE NATION ARE PLANNING A 17-MINUTE WALKOUT.

THEIR WALKOUT IS IN SPITE OF LEGISLATION PASSED JUST DAYS AGO IN ALBANY THAT TIGHTENS THE STATES CONTROL OVER GUNS, INCLUDING THE NOW INFAMOUS BUMP STOCKS.

BUT AS GOVERNOR CUOMO HAS REPEATEDLY SAID, THIS IS A FEDERAL ISSUE, AND HE CAN'T STOP GUNS FROM COMING IN FROM OUT OF STATE.

SO THE WALKOUT CONTINUES AS PLANNED.

IT'S HOW OUR NATION'S KIDS ARE RESPONDING TO THE PARKLAND, FLORIDA SCHOOL SHOOTING THAT TOOK THE LIVES OF 17 LESS THAN ONE MONTH AGO.

IN SUPPORT OF THE STUDENT AND THEIR PROTEST, BROOKLYN BOROUGH PRESIDENT WILL HOLD A RALLY ON THE SAME DAY.

ADAMS HOPES TO GUIDE THESE YOUNG LEADERS TO VICTORIES AND HE JOINS ME NOW ON THE PROGRAM.

WELCOME BOROUGH PRESIDENT ERIC ADAMS.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

IT'S GOOD TO SPEAK WITH YOU ON THIS IMPORTANT TOPIC.

SO FIRST TELL ME A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS RALLY FOR GUN CONTROL THAT YOU'RE GOING TO BE HAVING ON THE SAME DAY AS THE WALKOUT?

IT'S NOT MY RALLY AS MUCH AS THE YOUNG PEOPLE WHO HAVE DECIDED TO, YOU KNOW, REALLY ENGAGE IN CHANGE.

AND I HAD AN EMERGENCY MEETING WITH YOUNG PEOPLE ACROSS THE CITY OF BROOKLYN AND NEW YORK.

AND YOUNG PEOPLE CAME OUT AND SAID THIS WAS SOMETHING THEY WANTED TO DO AND WE'RE GOING TO GIVE THEM THE SUPPORT.

I THINK IT'S SO IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW TO ALLOW THEIR ANGER AND FRUSTRATION NOT TO DISSIPATE BECAUSE OF THE FRUSTRATION OF ABROGATING THE BUREAUCRACY, BUT USE THE SADULTS WHO HAVE BEEN I THE SYSTEM TO SHOW THEM HOW TO DO THIS IN AN EMPOWERING WAY.

THESE AREN'T NECESSARILY LESSONS THAT CAN BE LEARNED AT ONE RALLY, ON ONE DAY.

SO TRUE AND I'M GLAD YOU USED THE TERM LESSONS.

SOME PEOPLE ARE SAYING THEY'RE WALKING OUT OF SCHOOL, AND I SAY THEY'RE WALKING INTO SCHOOL.

BECAUSE SCHOOL IS NOT JUST WHAT MAKES PLACE IN A STERILIZED ENVIRONMENT OF FOUR WALLS OF THE SCHOOL BUILDING, IT'S ABOUT THEIR INTERACTION IN LIFE.

WE HAVE MOVED AWAY FROM CIVIC EDUCATION AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT ON HOW TO INFLUENCE ISSUES THAT AFFECT THEM DIRECTLY.

WE WANT TO SHOW YOUNG PEOPLE HOW TO JOIN THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITY BOARDS, HOW TO RUN FOR OFFICE, HOW TO GET A BILL PASSED, WHO IS A LOBBYIST, AND WHAT DOES A LOBBYIST DO.

HOW TO GET MONEY OUT OF POLITICS.

WE'RE GOING TO ALLOW THEM TO TAKE A GUN ISSUE AND SHOW THEM HOW THEY CAN EMPOWER THEMSELVES WITH ISSUES THAT IMPACT THEM TODAY AND IN THE FUTURE.

YOU AS A POLITICIAN REPRESENTING OF COURSE THE GREAT BOROUGH OF BROOKLYN ARE A DEMOCRAT AND NEW YORK IS CONSIDERED TO BE A VERY LIBERAL CITY.

MEANWHILE, A LOT OF THE KIDS FROM PARKLAND HAVE SAID THIS ISN'T A DEMOCRAT OR A REPUBLICAN ISSUE.

YOU SAID THIS WILL BE A RALLY FOR THE STUDENTS, BUT THE FACT THAT YOU'RE SO INVOLVED, ARE YOU CONCERNED THAT SOMEBODY MIGHT PAINT THIS AS THIS IS JUST THE DEMOCRATS TRYING TO JUMP ON A BANDWAGON?

I'M A BELIEVER IN OWNING HANDGUNS IN A RESPONSIBLE FASHION, I'M A FORMER MEMBER OF THE NEW YORK CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT, I KNOW WHAT IT IS TO BE ALLOWED TO CARRY A FIREARM AND WHAT IT MEANS TO THE AMERICAN TRADITION AND SPIRIT.

AND I WOULD NEVER SIDE WITH ANYONE WHO WANTS TO TAKE THAT AWAY.

IT'S ABOUT THE IRRESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR OF RECREATIONAL USE OF GUNS.

YOU DON'T NEED AN AK-47 TO DO HUNTING.

AND THAT IS WHAT THIS IS ABOUT.

HOW DO WE ENSURE THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS IN A RESPONSIBLE FASHION.

AND AS A PERSON WHO OWNS A HANDGUN, I KNOW I WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO SEE THAT HAPPEN.

AS SOMEONE REPRESENTING BROOKLYN, UNFORTUNATELY, GUN VIOLENCE IS NOT NEW TO THE BOROUGH, AND YET THIS ISSUE HAS NOW BECOME SUCH A NATIONAL CONVERSATION AND HAS GAINED SO MUCH MOTIVATION, BECAUSE THESE KIDS FROM A MORE SUBURBAN COMMUNITY HAS MANAGED TO TAKE IT TO THE NATIONAL STAGE.

IS THERE ANY CONCERN OR WORRY THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE THAT THE GUN VIOLENCE THAT PLAGUES SO MANY BLACK AND BROWN COMMUNITIES ACROSS OUR COUNTRY, MIGHT GET LOST IN THIS PARTICULAR GUN DEBATE?

AS I SPOKE TO A GROUP OF BLACK AND HISPANIC LAWMAKERS AND I TOLD THEM BASICALLY WHAT YOU ARE PUSHING FOR AND WHAT YOU ARE ADVOCATING FOR IS NOT GOING TO IMPACT THE COMMUNITIES THAT YOU REPRESENT. THAT MANY OF MY COLL VOTED ON AND I SHARED WITH THEM THAT IN THE PURR BEGAN SYSTEMS, WE ARE NOT FIGHTING AGAINST AK-47s AND SUB MACHINE GUNS AND AUTOMATIC WEAPONS.

IT IS THE -- OR SEMI-AUTOMATICS, THE 9 MILLIMETERS OR .48s.

WE HAVE SHOOT INGS EVERY DAY.

IF MASS SHOOTINGS INJURE MORE PEOPLE, THEN WE HAVE MORE SHOOTINGS TAKING PLACE IN THE URBAN CENTERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, SO WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL TO SHAPE THIS ABOUT HAVING A GUN REFORM THAT ADDRESSES JUST THE AUTOMATIC WEAPONS AND THE LARGE GUNS AND RIFLES, IT NEEDS TO BE SOMETHING WE ADDRESS WITH FIREARM FINANCE ALL TOGETHER.

AND ANY REFORM OR LEGISLATION MUST ADDRESS THE TOTALITY, BUT WITH THIS ISSUE, IT'S REALLY BROKEN INTO TWO SECTIONS, IT'S BROKEN INTO THE SUBURBAN AND THE URBAN IMPACT.

RIGHT NOW THE COUNTRY IS RESPONDING TO THE SUBURBAN IMPACT.

IT HAS IGNORED THE URBAN IMPACT.

LISTEN, BOROUGH PRESIDENT ERIC ADAMS, WE'LL DEFINITELY BE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING WHAT COMES OUT OF THE RALLY AND WE HOPE TO FOLLOW THIS STORY WITH YOU.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, AND AGAIN, IT'S MARCH 14 IN BROOKLYN, IT'S NOT A BROOKLYN RALLY FROM 2:00 TO 5:00, IT'S A RALLY FOR EVERYBODY IN THE TRI-STATE AREA TO COME OUT AND JOIN.

SO EVERYBODY SHOULD MAKE IT OUT TO PROSPECT PARK ON MARCH 14.

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR JOINING US.
