Bitter cold and no heat is a reality for thousands of people living in New York City Housing Authority apartments in the most extreme weather we’ve had so far this winter. It’s a new scandal for the already embattled agency. City Comptroller Scott Stringer is here with details and next steps. New York’s cash bail system sends thousands to jail simply because they cannot afford to pay. These individuals spend weeks, months and in extreme cases, years waiting for a “speedy” trial. Now human rights activist Kerry Kennedy brings the weight of her father’s legacy to the fight, as she calls for bail reform in 2018.  She joins us to share the details. Despite the freezing cold temperatures, dozens of straphangers stripped down for the annual “no pants subway ride.” We have the backstory.
