> GOOD EVENING AND WELCOME TO 'METROFOCUS,' I'M JENNA FLANAGAN.

IT WAS A NEWS FILLED WEEKEND WHICH PROMISES TO BE A WEEK FILLED WITH MORE OF THE SAME.

WHETHER LOOKING AT HEADLINES OR SURFING THE TV OR INTERNET, YOU COULD GET WHIPLASH WATCHING ALL THE HEADLINES UNFOLD.

WHERE TO BEGIN, START WITH SATURDAY AND PRESIDENT TRUMP'S WAR OF WORDS WITH THE NFL OVER PLAYERS WHO KNEEL IN RESISTANCE.

WOULDN'T YOU LOVE TO SEE ONE OF THESE NFL OWNERS, WHEN SOMEBODY DISRESPECTS OUR FLAG TO SAY GET THAT SON OF A [ BLEEP ] OFF THE FIELD NOW, RIGHT, HE'S FIRED, HE'S FIRED!

NFL FIRED BACK.

COMMISSIONER ROGER GOODELL RELEASED A STATEMENT CALLING TRUMP'S REMARKS DIVISIVE.

MORE THAN 130 PLAYERS PROTESTED THE NATIONAL ANTHEM THIS WEEKEND AS OBSERVED BY ASSOCIATED PRESS REPORTERS.

NICOLE MALYO TALKIS WEIGHED IN SAYING NFL PLAYERS ARE PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES AND ABOUT TIME TO ACT PROFESSIONALLY BY LEAVING PERSONAL AND POLITICAL VIEWS IN THE LOCKER ROOM, UNQUOTE.

AND TRUMP ISSUED NEW TRAVEL LIMITATIONS TO GO INTO EFFECT NEXT MONTH.

DELETING SUDAN AND IRAQ, ADDING CHAD AND NORTH KOREA.

D.R.E.A.M.ers HEAD A DACA DAY OF ACTION.

AGAINST THE EFFORTS TO DEPORT PEOPLE WHO CAME TO THE UNITED STATES AS CHILDREN AND HAVE NO MEMORY OF COUNTRY OF OTRIGIN.

BUT THE NEWS THAT THE LOST IN THIS CITY, SENTENCING OF ANTHONY WEINER.

SENTENCED TO 21 MONTHS FOR LATEST SEXTING SCANDAL, ACTS THAT INVOLVED 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL AND HAD POLITICAL RAMIFICATIONS THAT LED ALL THE WAY TO HILLARY CLINTON AND HER RACE TO THE WHITE HOUSE.

THAT'S WHERE WE START.

WE HAVE A LOT TO DISCUSS TONIGHT.

POLITICO'S LAURA NAM YAS.

START WITH THE SENTENCING.

ASKING FOR AS HIGH AS 27 MONTHS.

GOT 21.

WAS THAT SHOWING LENIENCY?

IF SO, WHY?

THE JUDGE TALKED TODAY ABOUT SEVERAL FACTORS THAT WENT INTO HER SENTENCING DECISION.

THOUGHT ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT GOING TO PRISON WOULD BE PERSONAL DETERRENT FOR ANTHONY WEINER AND WHAT IS INTERESTING SHE SAID MAYBE NOT.

MIGHT NOT HELP HIM PERSONALLY WITH HIS PROBLEM.

BUT THERE'S ALSO THE FACT YOU HAVE TO WEIGH THE IDEA OF GENERAL DETERRENCE WHEN YOU'RE GIVING SOMEONE A SENTENCE AND SHE FELT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO SEND A STRONG MESSAGE TO THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE SERIOUSNESS OF HIS CRIME AND THAT BECAUSE HE'S A PUBLIC FIGURE AND NOTORIOUS PUBLIC FIGURE, HE DESERVED SIGNIFICANT JAIL TIME.

SHE CAME IN AT LOW END OF THE SENTENCING GUIDELINES BUT STILL ALMOST TWO YEARS IN JAIL FOR THE FORMER CONGRESSMAN.

I ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT ANTHONY WEINER'S SOON TO BE EX-WIFE UMA AB DEAN WROTE A LETTER ASKING FOR LENIENCY.

WAS SHE THERE DAY?

NO HE SEEMED VERY ALONE TODAY.

A LOT OF THIS WORKED OUT WHEN UMA WAS AN AIDE TO HILLARY CLINTON.

AND ALLEGATIONS THAT JAMES COMEY'S INVESTIGATIONS INTO THE -- STARTED THE WHEELS THAT DELIVERED DONALD TRUMP INTO THE OFFICE.

IS THAT FAIR.

PEOPLE IN FORMER CLINTON CAMPAIGN LIKE TO SAY.

BUT I DON'T THINK IF YOU DID A FULL SURVEY OF EVERYONE WHO VOTED FOR DONALD TRUMP, IF THAT WERE EVEN POSSIBLE, WOULD SAY THIS WAS THE THING THAT CAUSED THEM TO VOTE FOR DONALD TRUMP.

I THINK IT WAS VARIETY OF FACTORS.

TURNING OUR ATTENTION TO PRESIDENT TRUMP.

AS YOU KNOW THIS WEEKEND HE DID GET INTO A WAR OF WORDS WITH SEVERAL HIGH PROFILE ATHLETES AND OF COURSE THE NFL AS WE MENTIONED IN THE INTRO.

THIS IS ALL HAPPENING WITH THE BACKDROP OF HIS PREVIOUS TRAVEL BAN EXPIRING AND A NEW TRAVEL RESTRICTION BEING ROLLED OUT.

THEN OF COURSE THERE IS THE REATTEMPT TO REPEAL AND REPLACE THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT WHICH DOESN'T LOOK LIKE IT'S GOING TOO WELL.

QUESTION IS HOW MUCH OF THIS NFL, KNEELING AT NATIONAL ANTHEM, RESPECT FOR THE FLAG, POLICE BRUTALITY SITUATION, HOW MUCH OF THIS IS JUST A DISTRACTION?

I THINK AT SOME POINT YESTERDAY HE SAID HE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT ANY OF THAT ANYMORE AND ALL HE CARES ABOUT IS TAX REFORM.

ON TO THE NEXT THING.

HE HAS A VERY SHORT ATTENTION SPAN IT SEEMS LIKE BUT IT'S ALL VERY DISTRACTING FOR ALL OF US, ISN'T IT?

THERE'S A LOT TO PAY ATTENTION TO AND LOT GOING ON AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT.

JUGGLING A LOT OF THINGS.

WE'LL SEE SOME DETAILS OF THE TAX REFORM PLAN THEY WANT TO PUT OUT IN MIDDLE OF THIS WEEK, GOING ON AT THE SAME TIME LOT OF THIS IS GOING ON.

THERE'S A LOT CONSTANTLY GOING ON WITH THIS ADMINISTRATION.

BUT BACK TO NEW YORK A LITTLE BIT.

HEARD THAT REPUBLICAN MAYORAL CANDIDATE NICOLE MALLIOTAKIS CAME OUT IN SUPPORT.

DOES THIS TANK HER BEING ELECTED MAYOR OR SHOT IN THE DARK ALWAYS?

POLL LAST WEEK SHOWED HER ALMOST 50 POINTS BEHIND MAYOR de BLASIO IN THE RACE.

OVERWHELMINGLY DEMOCRATIC CITY LIKE YOU SAID.

SHE HAS A LOT TO OVERCOME.

AT THIS POINT MAKING A STATEMENT LIKE SHE MADE, HEWING CLOSE TO REPUBLICAN ORTHODOXY IS MORE OF A SIGN OF WHAT SHE INTENDS TO DO AFTER THE RACE.

THAT SHE'S LAYING THE GROUNDWORK POTENTIALLY FOR RUN FOR STATEN ISLAND BUREAU PRESIDENT OR DAN DONEGAN'S CONGRESSIONAL SEAT OR SOMETHING STATEWIDE.

ED KOCH HAS SAID HE THINKS WOULD BE A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR STAYED WITH OFFICE.

NO POLITICIAN SAYS ANYTHING WITHOUT A MEANING BEHIND IT.

PIVOTING TO THE NEW TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS.

PREVIOUS TRAVEL BAN IS SET TO EXPIRE AND THEY'VE REPACKAGED A NEW SET OF RESTRICTIONS.

HOW DOES THIS HELP THE ADMINISTRATION FURTHER THEIR AGENDA?

WELL THEY CHANGED THE COUNTRIES.

SO THAT IT'S NO LONGER ALL MAJORITY MUSLIM COUNTRIES.

ADDED NORTH KOREA AND VENEZUELA.

YOU'LL REMEMBER WHEN THE ORIGINAL TRAVEL BANS WERE CHALLENGED IN COURT, THEY -- JUDGES STRUCK THEM DOWN ON THE ARGUMENT THAT THE PRESIDENT AND HIS AIDES, FORMER MAYOR RUDY GIULIANI HAD DESCRIBED SOMETHING SIMILAR AS MUSLIM BAN WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

PRESIDENT'S PREVIOUS TWEETS AND STATEMENTS ABOUT WHAT HE WANTED TO DO AND PEOPLE CLOSE TO HIM'S DESCRIPTIONS WERE USED TO STRIKE IT DOWN IN SOME CASES.

WAY THIS IS WORDED AND COUNTRIES IT AFFECTS, SEEMS LIKE IT COULD ADDRESS THAT PROBLEM.

OF ALL THE THINGS WE'VE HEARD FROM THE PRESIDENT THIS PAST WEEKEND AND WEEK, ONE OF THE THINGS WE HAVEN'T HEARD IS FATE OF PUERTO RICO, STRUGGLING IN THE AFTERMATH OF HURRICANE MARIA.

STRUGGLING IS MAYBE TOO LIGHT A WORD.

THERE IS NO POWER, THERE IS NO CELL SURFACE.

THERE ARE PEOPLE SLEEPING ON THE BAGGAGE CAROUSELS AT THE AIRPORT.

THIS IS A U.S. TERRITORY, MILLIONS OF PEOPLE THERE.

LACK OF FRESH WATER, DIALYSIS PATIENTS WHO NEED ELECTRICITY, SENIOR CITIZENS WHO ARE STRUGGLING, A LACK OF FOOD, ALL THE AGRICULTURE WAS DESTROYED, PRODUCE DESTROYED, ISLAND DEVASTATED AND IT'S REMARKABLE THAT WE HAVEN'T HEARD A LOT FROM THE PRESIDENT OR CONGRESS IN GENERAL ABOUT WHAT THEY INTEND TO DO TO HELP PART OF THE COUNTRY, A SIGNIFICANT PART OF THE COUNTRY WITH MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF RESIDENTS.

THAT'S INTERESTING BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH WE HAVEN'T HEARD THAT MUCH FROM THE FEDERAL LEVEL, WE HAVE HEARD A LOT FROM LOCAL LEVEL, STATE AND CITY.

GOVERNOR CUOMO TOOK A TRIP TO PUERTO RICO AND BEEN VOCAL WITH SUPPORT FOR U.S. CITIZENS STRUGGLING IN THE ISLAND.

NEW YORK IS HOME TO ONE OF THE -- THINK THE LARGEST POPULATION OF PUERTO RICAN IMMIGRANTS IN THE COUNTRY.

THERE'S A STRONG AFFINITY BETWEEN THE STATE AND THE TERRITORY.

AND GOVERNOR AND MAYOR AND ELECTED OFFICIALS WITH ROOTS AND FAMILY IN PUERTO RICO, INCLUDING MAYORAL CANDIDATE NICOLE MALLIOTAKIS, REPRESENTATIVE VELAZQUEZ, SPEAKER --

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR JOINING US ON THE SHOW.

APPRECIATE HAVING YOU ON TO HELP US BREAK DOWN THE COMPLICATED ISSUES OF THE DAY.

THANK YOU.
