Durst Moves Step Closer To Trial For Berman’s Murder

New York real estate heir and subject of the HBO documentary “The Jinx” Robert Durst is currently sitting in a jail cell facing federal gun charges in Louisiana while awaiting a murder trial in California, and he could be West Coast-bound soon.

CNN reports Durst is expected to plead guilty in New Orleans next month to unlawful possession of a firearm before answering charges in Los Angeles for the 2000 killing of close friend Susan Berman. The hearing is scheduled for Feb. 3, the cable news agency said.

Seventy-one-year old Durst is accused of killing Berman before investigators from the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office could question her about Durst’s role in the 1982 disappearance of his wife, Kathie. Berman served as Durst’s unofficial spokeswoman after his wife went missing. Former Westchester District Attorney Jeanine Pirro, now a Fox News host, has long suspected Durst of murdering Kathie to avoid an expensive divorce.

The HBO documentary series “The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst,” which can be viewed now on HBO, explored his connection to the cases of Berman, his wife and third murder, of which Durst was acquitted in 2003. The series generated renewed interest in the case, particularly the final episode which concluded with Durst muttering off-camera: “What did I do? Killed them all, of course.”

His remarks inspired the title of Pirro’s book, “He Killed Them All: Robert Durst and My Quest For Justice,” which chronicles her investigation of Durst for Kathie’s murder. Pirro shared the details with MetroFocus Host Jack Ford.

Durst maintains his innocence in both the murder of Berman and the disappearance of his wife.
