The growing divide between Mayor Bill de Blasio and the NYPD was evident following the grand jury decision not to indict the police officer involved in Eric Garner’s death and is now undeniable after hundreds of police turned their backs to the mayor at the funerals of two fallen officers. MetroFocus features excerpts from Hari Sreenivasan’s interviews with community leaders and retired NYPD officers on PBS NewsHour Weekend. John Eterno, a former NYPD captain and the associate dean and director of graduate studies in criminal justice at Molloy College joins MetroFocus host Rafael Pi Roman to discuss the current state of policing, the use of stop, question and frisk, and the relationship between police officers and the public.

Founder and CEO of Success Academy Charter Schools Eva Moskowitz joins MetroFocus host Rafael Pi Roman to discuss charter schools in New York City, education standards and criticism from teachers and politicians.

And Binghamton public television station WSKG travels to the studio of ice sculptor Mark Crouthamel who transforms large blocks of ice into complex sculptures and winter wonderlands.
