Encore: October 18, 2014

On the next edition of MetroFocus:

The secret world of steam beneath Manhattan’s streets is the subject of part four of The New York Times‘ video series – Living City – produced with Blue Chalk Media.

Sex therapist and media icon Dr. Ruth Westheimer joins MetroFocus host Rafael Pi Roman to discuss her ongoing work and career and her upcoming appearance at Rutgers University on October 22 where she will deliver the first Richard D. Heffner Open Mind Lecture in Communications and Human Values.

Director Neil Barsky joins Pi Roman to discuss his documentary Koch, which traces former New York City Mayor Ed Koch’s 12 tumultuous years in office. The documentary is available online at PBS POV through October 22.

And Jenna Flanagan reports on photographer Meryl Meisler who explores two different worlds by juxtaposing photographs she took of the Manhattan disco scene in the 70s with those she took of post-riot 1980s Bushwick, Brooklyn in her book A Tale of Two Cities: Disco Era Bushwick.
