MetroFocus Preview: Christine Quinn, NJ Recovery, Hurricane Sandy Task Force, NYC Invisible Library, Wine Stain Art

The next edition of MetroFocus features an in-depth interview with Christine Quinn, the leading Democratic candidate for New York City mayor. In the ongoing series NYC Votes 2013, Quinn talks to MetroFocus host Rafael Pi Roman about the city’s economy, low-income housing, teachers, term-limits, and the possibility she may be the city’s first woman and lesbian mayor. And Quinn makes clear that while she’s not certain she’ll get the necessary 40% to win in the primary on September 10th, she’s confident about the final outcome in November, telling Pi Roman, “I’m going to be positively realistic and know I’m going to win in the end.”

NJ Today reporter Lauren Wanko travels down the Jersey Shore and finds some restaurants faring poorly after Superstorm Sandy with business down forty percent in places. Pi Roman follows up with an interview with Jamie Rubin, New York State Director of President Obama’s Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force, set up to help plan for the distribution of the more than $50 billion appropriated by Congress last winter. The New York Times Stephen Farrell takes us to the City Hall Library, a hidden gem that even insiders don’t know about.  And finally, from public television station WSKG, upstate New York artist Amelia Fais Harnas finds her inspiration in wine and makes wine stains a thing of beauty.
