My name is Juddy Garcia Escolastico. I’ve lived in New York for over thirty years. However, I clearly remember when I left a small town in the Dominican Republic called Tenares. My best memories as a child cling to the palm trees of a place that lingers in my thought but where I am less of a native as each year that passes. I am now a Native New Yorker equipped to deal with the day to day tribulations of a large metropolis. I am public school teacher, an advocate for bilingual students (as I was one myself!). I am proud of my Dominican roots! I love “Sanchocho”, merengue and a cold president on a hot summer day! I equally love New York, its diversity and its pulsating culture.
