American Masters Exploring the Worlds of MY ANTONIA and THE SUN ALSO RISES
This site uses materials from the PBS American Masters series to create interactive resources for students reading two classic works of American literature. Students can immerse themselves in the sun-baked prairie town of Black Hawk, Nebraska, where American pioneers strive to cultivate a life in the Great Plains. Or they can meet up with Hemingway and his writerly pals, after World War I, as they sip aperitifs, bemoan lost innocence, and gather materials for the Great American Novel. About the Project

In Willa Cather's MY ÀNTONIA, a young Virginian befriends Antonia, a Bohemian girl fresh from the Old Country. Their friendship is formed by the raw nature of the landscape and their shared struggle for survival.

In Ernest Hemingway's THE SUN ALSO RISES, expatriate journalist Jake Barnes falls in love but is thwarted by war wounds, literal and psychological. Join Jake and his lady amour in the cafes of Paris and the bullring of Pamplona, Spain.
