National Hispanic Heritage Month
National Hispanic Heritage Month – September 15 to October 15 – celebrates the legacy, contributions and culture of the diverse group of Americans collectively referred to as Hispanic or Latinx (Latina and Latino) in the United States. Identity within this community is one of the topics scholar and NYC nonprofit founder Marissa Gutierrez-Vicario addresses in her guest essay for THIRTEEN in the Community this month.
In honor of the month, we present The 34th Hispanic Heritage Awards on October 8. Premieres include the PBS Kids series Alma’s Way, an American Masters biography of the legendary Rita Moreno, new documentaries from POV and VOCES, and a trio of opera divas on Great Performances at the Met.
