Sanditon: British Drama at the Beach

Elisa Lichtenbaum | December 24, 2019

Sanditon airs Sundays, January 12 – Feb 23, at 9 p.m. THIRTEEN members can binge watch all eight episodes starting January 12.

When will Sanditon air on PBS? Your beach getaway comes early in 2020, and you could say it includes a book! The witty and wonderful world of the Masterpiece miniseries Sanditon is inspired by Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel. Entrepreneurs, love interests, fortune hunters, hypochondriacs, and medical mountebanks come together at a struggling seaside resort that aspires to be the next fashionable playground in early 1800s England.

The eight-part television adaptation is by Andrew Davies (Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Les Misérables). The production was filmed near the Somerset town of Clevedon and on the beach at Brean, one of Europe’s longest stretches of sand.

Sanditon stars Rose Williams as Austen’s lively but levelheaded heroine, Charlotte Heywood; Theo James as the charming (and slightly wild) Sidney Parker; Anne Reid (Last Tango in Halifax) as Lady Denham, Sanditon’s forthright grande dame; Kris Marshall (Death in Paradise, Love Actually) as Sanditon’s compulsively enterprising promoter, Tom Parker; and Crystal Clarke as the mysterious West Indian heiress, Miss Lambe.

As a THIRTEEN member, you can binge watch all eight episodes the night of the premiere with THIRTEEN Passport, our extensive, on-demand library of public television programming. So dive right into this bold, sparkling miniseries brimming with beaches, seaside bathing machines, heartbreakers, glamorous balls, and Austen’s trademark wit.
