Reel 13 Classics presents Nothing But a Man on Saturday, June 8 at 9 p.m.

In director Michael Roemer’s landmark 1964 film, a young railroad worker (Ivan Dixon) and his schoolteacher wife (jazz legend Abbey Lincoln) try to build a meaningful life together in the Jim Crow South. Shot in black and white in a naturalistic style and featuring a vintage Motown soundtrack, this long-forgotten masterpiece of independent cinema has been hailed by The Washington Post as “one of the most sensitive films about black life ever made in this country.”

Dixon would become a familiar face on the television show Hogans Heroes; he played POW Staff Sergeant James “Kinch” Kinchloe from 1965 to 1970.
