An Evening With Lerner and Loewe – Broadway in Concert premieres Thursday, March 10 at 9:30 p.m. on THIRTEEN.
Enjoy music from My Fair Lady, Camelot, Gigi, Brigadoon, and more, in this new PBS concert celebrating iconic Broadway musicals by songwriting duo Alan Jay Lerner (lyricist) and Frederick Loewe (composer). The native New Yorker Lerner and Austrian Loewe collaborated primarily between 1942 to 1960 and again from 1970 to 1972. Performing their musical hits in this tribute are Jenn Colella (Come From Away), Aisha Jackson (Frozen), Jose Llana (The King and I), Aaron Lazar (A Little Night Music), Michael Maliakel (Aladdin), Sean Thompson (Sunset Boulevard), and Bayla Whitten (Les Misérables), led by conductor Luke Frazier and the American Pops Orchestra.
My Fair Lady was Lerner and Loewe’s most successful Broadway production, earning six of its 10 Tony Award nominations. Their 1958 film Gigi won nine Academy Awards, including Best Song. The songwriting team still influences entertainment today; their music and wacky plot of Brigadoon inspired the hit Apple+ series Schmigadoon, a musical parody.
