WHAT PEOPLE SAID ABOUT Victor Jara
Hugh Siegel
"Aprieto firme mi mano y hundo el arado en la tierra," sang Chilean "cantautor" Victor Jara, evoking the plight of the poor and the drive for change through struggle. A leader of the Nueva Canción movement uniting music and revolution, Jara’s music brought hope to Latin Americans and disenfranchised people worldwide. Executed in the coup of 9/11/73, Jara sang Venceremos (We will win) as he died. To this day, Jara’s songs fill countless hearts with courage and a promise that “todo cambiará.”
