She performed from the 1930s to the 1960s to great acclaim in film, on recordings, in live concert and on TV. The songs she made famous are still selected by current artists, although no one has ever approached the magnificence of her perfomance of Over the Rainbow or The Battle Hymn of the Republic.
As a child, she sang Over The Rainbow and several years later,as we got into WW2, GI's listened to the little girl, now a young woman sing Over The Rainbow, a if to them pesonally. Over the years, she captivated audences with her recordings, acting ad concerts.
The way she sang and acted was inimitable -- I don't know if she changed history, but she certainly made music and movies magical and memorable. One of a kind -- and a rare performer who was a great singer and a fine actress.
