Welcome to Blog Thirteen.

It’s no secret that we?re in the midst of a media revolution. New developments, ideas and innovations are appearing on the scene every day and change is the new status quo. Given the increasingly important role of the media in our lives, it’s important that we try to get a handle on the complex issues, technologies and policies that define the media environment today. As citizens, we all have a responsibility to try to understand the way television, radio, the Internet, and all the many new hybrid media forms are shaping our lives, our government, and our future.

Blog Thirteen will build on Thirteen/WNET’s educational mission by offering resources, news links, and opinion that will help you make informed decisions about your own media choices — for yourself, your family, your community and your society. Every day, we?ll post a Media Briefing, which will give you quick rundown of what’s going on in the media world, with links to news stories that we find notable.

Once a week, I?ll offer a column with some of my thoughts about significant issues and trends. The blog site also includes links to a useful Media Resources page, which we will update periodically.

We hope you enjoy Blog Thirteen and find it useful. Please stop by every day for the media briefing and consider book-marking this page. Or add this blog to your RSS reader and always be up on the latest news. And while you?re here, take a moment to explore the many fascinating, informative Web sites on Thirteen.org, New York’s public media home on the Web.

Thanks for visiting Blog Thirteen. And thanks for making public television a priority in your life.
