I forgot how many programs I watched on Thirteen as a teenager. I watched the documentary about the 70s and I used to watch many of the music programs specifically because you could see an artist perform like you were attending a concert. They didn’t come on and lip synch a couple of songs. I did watch Soul and I remember a concert with Joe Cocker where I could see him uninterrupted by commercials. I looked forward to those shows. As much as I love Ken Burns, I remember earlier documentaries like I Remember Harlem and Eyes on the Prize. There was even an urban “soap opera” called Our Street. PBS in the 70s was a great learning experience for me and taught me so much that I never learned in traditional school settings.
