I grew up watching Channel 13 in the quiet town of Cold Spring Harbor, NY in the 1970′s. I identified with the independent spirit of its programing as well as the perpetual sense of wonder that it brought out in me.
Later, as I grew older and sought more interesting, intelligent, diverse, and honest programing, free of the latest sensational nonsense attempting to pass for art and culture, I returned to Channel 13 to renew my instinctive passion for its wealth of true entertainment. After finding that Channel 13 had grown like I had and its schedule was full of events that I found truly interesting, I dropped my basket of cable channels, and tuned into 13 almost solely.
Though I live in another state far from 13′s broadcast range, I make a point of tuning into its siblings in the PBS network and watch 13 when I return to NY.
