Happy 50th Anniversary, Channel THIRTEEN!
At a time when there is so much disinformation & misinformation on many of the other channels, PBS NewsHour is reliably steady, balanced, and excellent in its reporting. I admire each and every member of their news team. My husband and I listen to the NewsHour every weekday night we can. On Friday night, we particularly look forward to the insights of Mark Shields and David Brooks (and others who fill in), and to the well prepared moderator, usually, Judy or Gwen. Shields and Brooks are wonderful role models for how to have discourse when your political affiliation differs. Years ago, I told my sister-in-law that I never disagree with Mark Shields. She said, “That means you’re a liberal.” Those were the days before we all seemed to be labeled. I often agree with David Brooks point of view, as well. However, in truth I am a progressive liberal. One of Mark Shields’ comments stood out during this busy election year. Early on, Mark said that Obama should focus on “Jobs, jobs, jobs.” Certainly agreed with that suggestion. We still need more jobs to recover (especially after the devastating Super-storm in the Metropolitan Area and elsewhere.) Another insight Mark shared was that the campaigns of both President Obama and Mitt Romney should have focused more on the American people than on themselves. Agree with that too. On Friday, we were moved by the poetry of Jennifer Fitzgerald, who spoke surrounded by the rubble in Staten Island. The NewsHour and other Channel 13 programs will keep us posted on such serious situations in our backyard and abroad. We can count on Channel 13! It never disappoints.
We regularly tune into many other programs on Thirteen which educate, enrich, entertain, and add enjoyment to our lives.
Thank you Thirteen!
