I remember Channel 13 before it was WNET (when it was on UHF!). I love the cultural events, the News Hour, documentaries. Front Line, Gwen Ifill, Nova, nature, all of Ken Burns’ documentaries, and Live From Lincoln Center. I appreciated McNeill & Lehrer’s fine journalism, enjoyed Alistair Cooke’s urbanity, and have always treasured the honesty and keen insight of Bill Moyers. Documentaries and simulcasts of Miles Davis, Zubin Mehta conducting Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, the NY Philharmonic, Renee Fleming, and the Metropolitan Opera have all been spectacular and emotionally moving. Who can forget the original Forsyte Sage with Eric Porter and Ngaire Dawn Porter or the Upstairs Downstairs not to mention their more recent incarnations — or Downton Abbe. Lastly, Charlie Rose with the brilliant Eric Kandel and their series on the brain challenged even this neuroscientist and neuropsychologist. Bravo!
