SundayArts takes a road trip to Mountainville, in the Hudson Highlands, to spend some time at the Storm King Art Center. Storm King is a unique 500 acre open air museum, recently making news with Maya Lin’s stunning new earthwork, “Wavefield”. With roughly 125 of this century’s best sculptures surrounded by a lush landscape, rolling mountains and endless sky, SundayArts discovers one of New York’s best kept secrets.
I enjoyed this piece very much. I would love to visit there with my little clan. The wavefield’s were stunning. To think that it is all an artist’s vision is overwhelming. I especially loved that early in the piece the background music had a Led Zeppelin song in there. Thank whoever’s idea that was. It kept me interested. The landscaping…wow. I am not a fan of the arts, but this is more up my alley than viewing sculpture in a Manhattan building. I am going to look into this art center a little more. If it is kid friendly (because I have 3) this would be a great destination for a fall afternoon. Thank you.
Ihad gone to Storm King once and loved the place and the show I’d gone to see. You reinforce my desire to go back. If only oe could get there by public transportation like Dia Beacon.
can’t wait to visit. The interviewee is pretty intense, yet calm, and kinda cute too.
