Nicola Benedetti started playing the violin at four. It would have been easier if her parents were musical, but they’re not, but that’s OK since Nicola is musical, very musical.
Born in Scotland of Italian heritage, Nicola was accepted in the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin School.
Named BBC’s Young Musician of the Year in 2004, Benedetti has captivated audiences and critics with her performances, leading the Independent to say of her, “Benedetti has the gift of communication in spades: an ability to make the music seem larger than life by sheer eagerness of musical personality.” Nicola hates the label “child prodigy” that the British press has bestowed on her; she insisted that her success is due to hard work and discipline. Now 20, she has a full performance schedule, a six record deal, and a Stradivarius worth about $4, million, but even with all these achievements, Benedetti feels she won¹t his her prime for another 20 or 30 years.
