Kaija Saariaho has been writing music for over 25 years but has only recently began to focus on the voice in her work. This year she was the the composer in residence at the Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival which featured the US premiere of her oratorio which covers the life and death of French philosopher Simone Weil.
