At the end of August, Christina Ha sat down with designer Cynthia Rowley to discuss her frequent collaborations with artists and her many design endeavors. August is a hectic month for designers as they work on their new Spring collection, and every moment counts for sourcing materials and making changes. Ms. Rowley was in the throes of working on Spring when we taped her interview, so we were thrilled she made time for SundayArts.
When Christina asked what hints she could give us for Spring collection, she replied “I was thinking about ways to put a little flash and a little glamour into your wardrobe without having to accessorize or own a lot of stuff.”
The invite to her show featured an image of sleek gold bars, which seemed in keeping with the idea of a collection infused with flash. It was no surprise then, to see how the typically plain runway was transformed into a gleaming, metallic set.
The effect, when illuminated, was galvanizing. The golden light warmed the models’beachy waves, giving them a sunkissed radiance. Fresh frocks and feminine silhouettes featured luxurious details like gold accents and rich florals.
