This was one of the bands that made most other bands HIDE!!!!! The New Birth Inc. was the total end all to be all! And the amazing Robin Russell on drums……THANK YOU NEW BIRTH & THIRTEEN!

The Nite-Liters & New Birth were always on top of their game. I had the pleasure of seeing them perform “live” several times back in the day. The first time was in York, PA – 1972. One of the best shows ever! Their stage presence & showmanship was truly EXCEPTIONAL. The group’s dynamic command of the stage, vocals & musicainship was second to none. “SOUL” was truly an innovative program! Stan Latham is simply the BEST TELEVISION DIRECTOR. He’s been in the game for such a long time. His ideas are always fresh — which is why his programming credits are endless. I’m so grateful to WNET Thirteen for posting these screen gems on line. Thank you WNET. Pleas keep them coming!

Ch.10. You name the Nite-Liters jam “K-Jee” incorrectly as “El-Watusi.
BTW.
I remember a SOUL! show that featured NEW Birth and they did all of the songs from their album “Birthday”
That seems to be missing from your list.

When New Birth did the breakdowns during “I Can Understand It” was like hell erupting. Totally amazing.
Thank you so much for posting this extraordinary group! Along with Rufus, New Birth, Inc. was one of the most underrated, overlooked bands of the 1970’s. From the late James Baker leading that tight horn section to the Wilson brothers (the other double dynamite…sorry, Sam & Dave! ) to the incomparable Londie Loren Wiggins, this band was pound for pound one of the best out there. Please find all the other episodes of Soul! for this is of great historical importance here and now in 2010. The musicians, luminaries and thinkers of that day still have much to teach us. We as a people have come so far, but we still need to know of those who came before us. Gerry Bledsoe was amazing too as the host! NYC had it all then, as now. May Jah bless your restoration efforts until such time as we can see them all again in their glory. Again, my thanks!
Phenomenal!!! You have made my day, week and year. Please consider making Soul available for sale. We need to show our kids what the music looked and sounded like before the shift in the music industry prior to hip hop in the 80’s. This can be a bridge to the younger generation and hopfully the next generation will begin to learn to read and study instruments again. WE MUST NOT LET OUR LEGACY BE FORGOTTEN OR LOST. GREAT JOB
