Synopsis:

In this bittersweet Irish coming-of-age tale, 13-year old Maeve hits a new milestone: her first bra. Distracted from her friends when she attracts the attention of heartthrob Brian, it’s a long fall back to earth when he ultimately dumps her, and becoming an adult doesn’t seem like such a great idea anymore.  32A is the debut feature from writer-director Marian Quinn. Starring Orla Brady, Glynis Casson, Patrick FitzGerald, and Aidan Quinn.

Directed by: Marian Quinn

Although a native of Illinois, writer-director Marian Quinn based on her screenplay for 32A on time she spent in Dublin during her own childhood.  Quinn is also a working actress, appearing on television (Law and Order) and film (I Shot Andy Warhol).  Quinn hails from a cinematic family; her brother, Aiden Quinn, appears in 32A as the family patriarch.

Interesting film trailer, but it does not look like very much.

It is very interesting. Great in fact. Brilliant. Where can I get more by Marian Quinn.

It was terrific! Bravo! Great to see a coming of age film from a girl’s point of view for a change!

Loved it…captures a time, a place, a kind of innocence without resorting to sentiment. Bright touches of humor give it a light touch. Sterling performances all around. A tight but relaxed screenplay. A folk movie antidote to mindless mass produced and mass marketed retail fodder.

Thoroughly enjoyable! Fabulous soundtrack. Well done!

Brilliant…loved every minute of the movie; great coming of age. It is so hard to be a girl at that age.

This is really a superb film. How she got the most natural performances out of these kids…one, in fact, quite young (the little sister) is a good question. The group ritual of adolesence and the cruelty of it were subtly rendered. Bravo!

i only got to see half of it. Its so great. I wish to see the rest. Anyone know where I can see it somewhere else?

Roy -- March 20th, 2009 at 11:33 am

To Jennifer: It’s not on DVD, but you can access the official website http://www.32amovie.com.

to Carolyn: What about Juno and Welcome to the Dollhouse? Those are nice female, coming of age films, and 32A belongs with them.

Just saw it on July 4th and thought it was great. I turned 16 the day before so it was a great sort of “birthday present”. The acting is genuine, natural, sincere, all the best. Marian Quinn and the rest of cast and crew did a great job! Ailish McCarthy was Maeve Brennan and she was my favorite character in the movie.

when will this movie be on again? I saw it once, and thought it was an exceptional film in every respect.
