The Squid and the Whale
Interview: Jeff Daniels

In anticipation of Reel 13’s April 18th broadcast of The Squid and the Whale, Richard Peña, program director of the Film Society at Lincoln Center, sat down with the film’s star, Jeff Daniels. In this interview, Daniels discusses stage acting versus screen acting, the state of American regional theater, and his awkward love scene with former on-screen daughter Ana Paquin.

I loved the too short interview with Jeff Daniels. I have loved him ever
since “The purple rose of Cairo”. Did I catch him alluding to the name of his theatre in Michigan is “the Purple Rose”? What city in Michigan?

Gail, the theatre in Michigan is in Chelsea, Michigan and it is called “The Purple Rose” theatre. It is delightful and experimental and the population around Michigan is lucky to have it.
