Animated by Garrett K, Produced by Casey Safron
A story of a girl in the city.
Interview with Casey Safron, creator/writer/producer
Q: What inspired the storyline of Replacement Dog?
Someone was telling me a story about an awkward end to a relationship where the commitment phobic half of the drama got a dog a week after it all ended, and I thought to myself - that would make an interesting little cartoon, so I coined the phrase “replacement dog” and hired an animator
buddy named Garrett Koeppicus to design and draw the short film.
Q: How do you start creating an animated film? With a story, a character, a drawing?
All the films I’ve worked on have been created in different ways, sometimes I’m 100% the creative force behind it, sometimes only 10% - as a producer, there’s no definite outline for me, most of the time I just do what the story calls for.
Q: What do you think the value is of a short film and short film festivals?
Thanks to the power of the internet, I think short films and film festivals are more important than ever. With the web, you have unlimited access to an international audience. And festival programs paired with the internet can only enhance the power of the individual animator.

super love it
We really loved the drawing style, simplicity and paper texture background. The story is just terrific!
