Close to Home

Director: Theo Rigby

A beautifully photographed and sensitive telling of one family’s working through grief towards healing. Brian Marquez was murdered on a San Francisco street corner in 2005. Since that day, his father has been on a quest to find the killers that took his son. During the traditional Mexican holiday of Day of the Dead, “Close to Home” portrays a father who has yet to deal with the death of his son, and a daughter who is looking for the father she once had.

I voted for this one because it is more timely than the Auschwitz short, Being more in the moment with current events, it is quite touching and a fine job for 100hrs or less of work.

To me, holocost clips have seen their day and do not touch me as deeply as current events. However we must never forget to be vigilant for what we have learned and grateful for the freedom we have.

I voted for this film because it is beautifully photographed, the sound is splendid, the story is timely, and powerful. Please get the vote out, this film needs to be seen, and win!

This is a poetic and moving story, beautifully filmed and sequenced. So few words and strong imagery tell a deep and painful experience. Wonderful work.

I voted for this because Theo is my brother! But that’s not the real reason. The real reason is that I cried while watching this.

This is an incredible film about loss of all types (not just the loss of those that are taken form us). The imagery is absolutely beautiful and I appreciate the how the music and testimony enrich the already vivid and moving images. Great work!

this is very beautiful, and a lot of people can relate to it. you have a great talent, and i hope you win, and i hope the father in this story wins by finding who killed his son.

Not only is the story moving and important, the film maker has a lovely eye for image.

This film is QUALITY…anyone can relate because we are human beings. Close to Home is a powerful and well made film with an important message…the film is incredibly phenomenal - visually and artistically strong. The others are lacking…all they have are quick cuts and thoughtless editing.

This films calls out for Justice but is realistic about what is taken by injustice

This was the only short that spoke to me, the only one with which I could connect.

This is immediate. The others are somewhat contrived. I watched all three twice and this is the only one that will stay with me.

Stunning film! My heart goes out to the Brian’s family and we all hope his father will ‘come home’ soon. Great job on all counts!

As a parent, I can relate to the father’s loss, guilt and sadness. The impact on the family is done with sensitivity & honesty. It is very well done.

Sad, True. I feel the ftaher’s pain. My brother was killed unnecessarily years ago. I remember feeling the same way.

I was so touched by his pain, that I felt inspired to write him a message of hope and inspiration. I tried to contact him through the website listed at the end, and the email there is no longer valid. Would you please contact me so that I may send a message to him? My mother was murdered 10 years ago, and I have some things to share that I think could really help him, about living your own life after loss. jenlist AT floatingcamera dot com

thank you for your beautiful film
