NASA Distorted Climate Change Reports
June 3rd, 2008 at 10:33 am

Two years ago, fourteen U.S. senators called for an investigation of NASA after it was revealed the agency was distorting and suppressing reports on climate change. Now, investigators are pointing fingers.

A report issued by NASA’s internal investigations office confirms that “during the fall of 2004 through early 2006, the NASA Headquarters Office of Public Affairs managed the topic of climate change in a manner that reduced, marginalized or mischaracterized climate change science made available to the general public.”

According to investigators, the information suppression was carried out by political operatives working for NASA’s press office. The report did not implicate higher-ranking NASA officials or members of the Bush administration.

Meanwhile, a recently released government report describes the impact global climate change is already having on U.S. farms, wildlife, forests and water supplies. One of the report’s lead authors discusses its findings (video available) with NewsHour’s Ray Suarez.

You can also read (or watch video) about a new climate bill on Capitol Hill that aims to reduce carbon emissions by creating a hotly-debated carbon cap-and-trade system, which President Bush has threatened to veto.
