For instance, though certain very symbolic "New York" events (i.e. the WTC memorial lights and the Yankees ticker tape parade) form the focus of some of my work, they are not overt signifiers of New York as a specific place. Q: What films/videos and makers have inspired you or influenced your work? And why? A: Coming out of an art background, a lot of artists and specifically video artists have influenced my work. Early in my art education, video installation artists like Bill Viola and Gary Hill attracted me to the possibility of integrating video into other contexts -- a challenge that still interests me. For several years I've worked with Doug Aitken as his assistant. Doug's insistence on the necessity of a kind of pure communication certainly resonates with me.
