Q: What is the relationship between your work as a video/filmmaker and life in the New York metropolitan area?
A: Living in New York has had an important impact on my work. I've been here about six years now and am still curious about what it means to be a New Yorker. Part of my wish to make documentary-based work here was simply to have a directed experience of exploring the city. It was a way to feel closer to the city as a non-native. Also, this city has a mobility and fluidity that makes for a great base. You are able to leave and compelled to return, which creates a great dynamic for working. New York is the quintessential metropolis -- the perfect stand-in for the environment society is driven to create.
