Q: What inspired Nam you to make this piece?

A: I am not a morning person! HYPER ALARM DANCE is both a love letter and an act of contrition to all former roommates and lovers who have had to put up with my inability to arise past the seventh hit of the snooze button. I am always dreaming dance steps and one morning between snoozes, I gazed up at the numbers in the clock and wondered how they would dance. As a choreographer, I generally do not make work to club music but I was once out dancing at New York's Body and Soul and, well ... that night a DJ changed my life. Ever since, I've been a die-hard fan of both Femi and Fela Kuti. Compelled, I soon found myself in the studio making up the steps for what was originally a stage piece danced by myself and New York-based choreographer, Janessa Clark.
