The ninth season of Thirteen's REEL NEW YORK is a testament to the rich diversity of the remarkable city that gives this annual television film and video festival its name and its inspiration. From cutting-edge videos by newcomers to classic films by renowned veterans, the event has become a highly anticipated Thirteen tradition, and this year it features more than 30 short- and feature-length works by local artists. Since breaking ground in 1996, REEL NEW YORK has been a unique forum for New York-based independent filmmakers. Their works reflect a refreshing array of perspectives that cross social and cultural boundaries to illuminate aspects of life that many New Yorkers never see.
