(cont.) Knowing that these interactions were more complex than that, I decided to make BAR TALK as a comment on these straightforward narratives. Because I wasn't sure exactly what the end result would look like, and because I decided fairly quickly to do this project, I ended up paying for BAR TALK out of my own pocket. Despite the relatively low cost of production, it was definitely an investment. Since I work mostly in documentary, I have found that seeking funding for my other work has been somewhat easier, though never simple. I've just started fundraising for a new documentary about synchronized swimming. I think the beginning of this process is always the hardest.
