A: My first visit to ground zero after the attack, I was standing on the sidewalk of Greenwich and Murray streets. Metal chain link fences with green "tennis court" mesh were constructed to cage the tourist and obstruct the view. Clusters of people were lining up behind the holes in the mesh that people "created" for a better view. Parents were putting their children up a tree and handing them a camera for a better shot. There were lines at least 10 people deep for each vantage point. The way people were jockeying for position to claim the best view was fascinating. I felt like I was back in acting school watching a flawless acting improvisation with the most brilliant actors. I shot an hour of footage in just that block long cage, constantly surprised by the varied reactions of the onlookers.
